Where to start... I listen almost exclusively to metal, mainly black and death, and a balanced/neutral sound was what I wanted. Nearing one year into my audiophile journey, I was sensing that a single dynamic driver was my ideal; reading about all the hybrid, 8+ armature IEMs got my head spinning since I am but a simpleton. Suffice it to say, after reading the initial reviews for the HA-FDX1 I hopped on the first drop and got these back in December 2019. My setup consists of the Radsone ES100 when I'm not at home. I started out on the LCX + SDAC, but I just picked up the SMSL SP200 and am awaiting the Topping D90 (damn coronavirus shut down the factory). For reference I also have the following: Portapros, HE4xx, MrSpeakers' ÆON Flow closed back,  FiioF9 pro, TinT2 and TFZ T2. I'm not going to go into the sound signature of these too much, I pretty much agree with the initial reviews on the sound characteristics and that's why I got them in the first place. I use the blue filters. I like the gummy eartips, have tried dekoni bulletz but they stifle the sound a bit too much with green filters in. I would revisit the filter/eartip combo for sound isolation, since the gummies don't excel at that. Car noise on a 25-35 mph street leaks through when I'm walking the dog listening around 90dB spl (as estimated by the ES100 app). I doubt these would be great for airplane listening, but I'll withhold judgement until my next flight. Initially, I thought the stock cable sucked, but that was mainly due to me wanting to run these with the FiioF9pro over-ear balanced cables to the LCX and ES100. Now that I've got the SP200 and have been trying the FDX1's single ended more, I can say that the stock cable is pretty decent. Getting a good fit can be a bit tricky, since the weight of the cable and housing makes them jiggle easily, but the choker/adjuster helps reign it in. Over ear or down is comfy and the swivel helps you get a good fit. As to whether or not they sound better balanced vs single ended...I'm still trying to figure that out. But I think balanced sounds a tad bit more open soundstage-wise and neutral. Definitely better balanced on the LCX and ES100, balanced barely edges out SE on the SP200. At this point the comfort of the balanced cables are a little better than the JVC cables, so I usually stick to balanced. In the end, I'm very happy with the FDX1, and can say that I've no need of another IEM, unless the situation calls for a beater. Curious about what the grass is like on the other side, sure, but these do the job of pumping sweet, sweet metal into my earholes. Demo material and terrible live recordings are now palatable, discernable, explorable with the FDX1, which was my biggest surprise so far. I pretty much expected that from the Aeonflows, but was grateful to hear this from the FDX1's. I keep on editing this review, but gotta point out that this drop was exactly the kind of thing that got me started here back when it was Massdrop with the portaprox's.
