Really classy, professional looking keyset. Colors came out great, nice shade of blue that matches the gold very well. The base kit covered an 1800 layout perfectly. Well thought out kits. Overall great set!
Why not add a modifier set with so many alt alphas. Given it’s a japanese theme I just don’t get why nishi as base or modifier set isn’t an option. Missed out on a lot of sales with this miss.
mrfrinkalinkBecause not everyone will want the alternative alphas, simple as that. Having them all in one Base kit will lead to a big price jump just for the extra bells and whistles and will be out of reach for many as if the simple base kit right now isn't quite price friendly but sensible. Even having another secondary Base kit with all the alternative alphas will make another MOQ tab which isn't the best call even though it may be delightful for the ones that truly want it all and make the purchase, but how many is that? With many new people diving into this hobby as late, this is quite a sensible approach with whats already given even though it is quite taxing for those who want the extra flare and ones that have been in this mech game for a while.
I suggest you reconsider the kits and price. I believe I am not the only one who will NOT join this GB because you try to sell the nishi separately in a Japanese themed kits. I am in if the change happens.
hotnoodle2225Yeah I like how they use the nishi with base set modifiers as an example picture to make you think you can get that but really you are forced to buy 3 separate sets to get that.
The sets look great but the way it is being handled by drop seems very silly.
First off, the sets are in different GBs which doesn't make any sense at all. If I wanted to get red/blue together then I'd have to pay shipping/duties twice. I thought this might be because they'd have to do different color matching for the kits but the novelties text add-on contains both colors. Also the dates listed are the same. This feels so pointless.
Additionally, it is not possible to order a novelties text/space bars add on without getting a base kit. This is really weird. It almost feels like it's done so that one can't upgrade their TKL/65 kits to work on other keyboards. I wanted to get just those 2 kits so that I could put my 65 kit on tsangan/HHKB layout or a 65 layout with 3 keys to the right of the spacebar.
"[M]ost sets feature dual legends in the base." This is my point. It makes no sense that this would not be the case here. Just look at the Red Samurai kits that feature dual legends. Did that decision negatively impact sales? No. I have seen maybe two people who have said that they do not like Japanese subs. This discussion features quite a few people who will not buy this set because they are not included in the base. Like entry level enthusiasts are going to be put off/intimidated by JP subs. What are you talking about?
AxarielProfit. I would wager that dual legends are more expensive to order, and while the drop price is the same, the profit margin is slimmer on the dual legend caps.
Because most newcomers would be chill with just the latin alphas, and they will double sell alphas to the people who really want japanese, they are making more money than if they split out all of the alphas (three options on alphas, modifiers/ortho kits, novelties, etc.) More expensive per key, cheaper per kit, fewer total keycaps/profits likely.
So even if we just want the nishi set, we would need to buy that and the base model for the few extra essential keys for double the price?? I feel like that is such a steep price if you just want a few of the essential keys that are missing with the nishi set. Especially if we want the spacebar too in addition to that; it's so much to add a few necessary keys. I feel like a lot of people would agree that adding a at least a 60 or 65% nishi set would be much more cost efficient and popular of an option.
For example, the second sample picture you show is worth ~$250 (base kit + nishi + spacebars, which have to be 2 complete separate orders). That is double the original price for a complete 60% keyboard.
But there is the red samurai GMK base set that you can preorder for a $100 or less for a TKL kit and 65 set that includes the necessary keys these are missing. Why not have the same option for the blue?
ttuproYeah that is underwhelming oh wells. Vivid blue (not as the one you posted that would be a bit too much for that yellow) would have worked much better with this nice yellow color. Thanks for your input I am planning to maybe buy one of these in stock and was hard to choose between thus didn't join gb
erickongClassic novelties was brought back because of community interest, otherwise it would have been a similar amount as some may have seen during early IC.
So you're saying the new way is less confusing? What about people who want to buy base, and the other two alphas? They still have to add an order for every of those kits right? How is that any different? How does making it less "confusing" justify you from gatekeeping?

YellowhaloIt's also related to restrictions on the backend that are in place while we make some changes and transition to a better checkout system. We would like to offer every kit a la carte, but we can't right now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
