If I were to prioritize a short list of all the watches I'd be willing to dump a grand on at this point, I'd have to confess that thing above wouldn't make the cut. On the other hand, this one definitely would!

What about you?

RayFTough one. The $500 and $1000 price points are where you can be really picky and still be able to get what you want with a few compromises. I need a fidget thing on my watches which knocks out your Hamilton - my ideal watch is an omega planet ocean as I get timing bezel, chronograph, see through caseback and nice lume. But after trying it on, it’s not too wide ( a real 45mm, nothing like a turtle) but just too thick at 17mm. Would I drop a grand on this as is? No. $500, probably. That blue subdial is nice. Add a diving bezel to this and keep it under 15mm? 1k easy.

WatchyoutalkingaboutNo doubt if I could find a nice Omega for a grand, I would gladly put it ahead of the Hamilton ;- )

WatchyoutalkingaboutThey must have found another case of them under somebody’s desk? Hopefully they’ll find a good home for them—before these cute little puppies grow up to become old...

ED61Sorry, a little preoccupied by the Murph at this point. Of course I would make an exception for a Ventura Elvis ;- )

RayFI'm surprised that Alpina doesn't show up here. They make high quality watches at reasonable prices. It's not a common brand in the US, which I think is a plus. I think of them as a prudent man's IWC. I have a vintage Hamilton from the 1960s my dad gave me in HS. This was of course long before they were part of Swatch and still manufacturing in the US. My dad liked the brand from his army days in WWII.

mcloseMy father was a Hamilton fan too, back then they just another American watch company, good, but not considered fancy. I agree with you about Alpina, and what about Certina as well? So many brands, so many watches--it's a lot for the average Joe to keep up with!
