This might be a silly (or redundant) question, but what do the LEDs in the ErgoDox kit do? I soldered them in as instructed, but one seems permanently on, and the others are always off. Their placement underneath the keys makes me wonder what they're for, as the light isn't visible during normal operation.

MarfyAFAIK they are for Caps/Num Lock or similar indicator lights. Num Lock is probably the one that seems to be permanently on as it is often enabled on boot. One could modify the firmware to use them for whatever purpose they want though.
While they seem useless with non-transparent keycaps you can still see whether the led is on or off with them.

MarfyThe one that's on is probably NumLock. The others are ScrollLock and CapsLock. If you haven't programmed those keys into your layout, you don't need to worry about them.
