DE shaving is all about technique. Arguments that it is not money saving are arguments that one did not master the techniques. A $30 DE razor will do nicely for learning. Once one's techniques are polished, one can appreciate the finer qualities of this baby.

vgrundMoney saving, sure... Let me remind you that you're replying in the discussion of $210 razor, LOL.

semkaHere are my two cents, recently having tried new ways of shaving myself...
Shaving expenses (within the last month): Muhle R89, Vulfix Grosvenor Brush, Proraso pre-shave Cream, Proraso shaving soap, Edwin Jagger shaving bowl, Alum Bloc, Proraso shave cut healing gel, Proraso aftershave, blade sampler pack (+ Supermax shaving cream), Kent brush stand, Muhle blade guard.
All these for approximately £115. Let's swap the Muhle razor for the Feather razor ($150=£100): 115 - 25 + 100 = £190 And now let's swap the Grosvenor (£15) for a luxurious £125 brush. That makes it £300.
Previous shaving expenses: Gillette Mach3 + tens of useless blades (couldn't shave with that) Wilkinson Sword Quattro + even more blades (marginally better than the Gillette) Many useless disposable razors A lot of shaving foam and gel cans
Unfortunately, I don't have the receipts for all of these, so I'll improvise: I'll take their prices from Amazon.co.uk (which offers far better prices than what I've paid over the years)... Ok, so for 2 packs of disposable BIC razors, 2 cans of Gillette gel, 1 can of Nivea foam, 1 Mach3 razor+16 Gillette cartridges, 1 Wilkinson Quattro razor+160 cartridges, and an aftershave I get £310. Lol £310. I have spent way more than that. But I'm keeping the £310.
So, I'd spent £310 for very poor shaves before I splashed in £300 and luxuriously shaved myself to baby-face levels of smooth for the first time in my life. I mean this, I can't remember the last time my face felt so smooth (not all of it though, some patches weren't that smooth, I'm still learning).
Seeing that I won't spend big cash on blades anymore and I only need a shaving soap/cream (say an expensive one at £20) every few months, whereas I would spend £20 every month for multi-blade cartridges and foam, I'd say that I do save a little money. And I do so with class.
