Holly cow, I can't believe I just paid thirty-five hundred dollars for this watch and here it is on MD for only $729!!!
Okay, kidding ;- ) I didn't really pay thirty-five hundred dollars for this watch--it's not really my style.
But what if it's your style, I mean suppose you've been looking for a nice aviation-themed watch--what's a fella supposed to do, shell out $729 for a watch he's only going to wear now and then?
Well, maybe--if you're made of dough, but what if you're just a regular kind of guy? I mean, $729 might be your car payment, or maybe a memorable night out with that cute brunette you've been eying in the cubical next door? Are you gonna blow all that cash on trendy watch, instead of a car payment or a hot date?
Hell no you're not!
But still, it's a pretty nice looking watch, isn't it? Yes, it is--but YOU, being the saucy and suave kind of guy YOU are, can do better, can't you? Yes you can, because you're hip to this way-cool website where this snappy little company that hardly anyone knows about, sells amazingly inexpensive watches, with good movements, for dirt cheap! So when you want a cool aviator-style watch that looks just like this ridiculously over-priced number MD is trying to sell you, you chose instead, a SHARK PILOT WATCH for only $129! Which, by the way, comes with a perfectly acceptable Seiko NH35A Automatic Movement (24 Jewels, 21'600 bph, 40 hours power reserve) and that get's the job done just as well, doesn't it?
Yes it does! And, by the way, you have your choice of several aviation dial styles, including, with or without a date complication, don't you? Yes you do, damn it!
So here you go, check out these perfectly acceptable, alternative aviation watches, and save yourself six-hundred big ones while you're at it!
RayFHello Ray, you're right: pictured Heimdallrs look great.
And now I am going to bring one of your classics: I was pulling the trigger on one of them the other day until I saw that these Heimdallrs are 38,5mm (!) Having a man's hand 40mm is an absolute minimum for me with 42mm being the sweet spot.
ElkyI like it!
If I had that one, I'd point to that little airplane and tell people: "this shows me if I'm coming in straight and level on my instrument landings" ;- )
AmsterdamnedNo, not these. I did order a few other watches from Heimdallr (divers, as I recall) and they should be here next week. If they turn out as nice as they look on screen, I'd probably go back for a Pilot watch or two. I'll let you know how my test order turns out...
NutnfancyPerhaps--if you're compensating for other shortcomings?
Kidding, while not exactly a fan of 38s my self, there is a constant chorus of small-wristed gentlemen on this site who complain bitterly about large watches. For that group, especially those who aren't flying nighttime bombing runs over Dusseldorf, a 38mm flyboy homage is probably more wearable. Not to mention those Sharks are dirt cheap!

RayFyea and that same crowd is now complaining about a 38mm chrono.
There’s just no pleasing some people’s children.
