Product Description
Designed by Matt3o, creator of the WhiteFox keyboard, this set of GMK Retro keycaps pays homage to the legendary 8-bit Commodore 64 computer, which was first introduced in 1982. Since the famed Retro set has already been created in DSA and SA, Cherry profile by GMK was the logical next step Read More
Loving those front-printed legends and alpha colors - any chance for an inclusive kit or extra mod kits that would make for an all monochrome set in the alpha colors (like breadbin C64s had)?
The red alphas usually sell about 4 to 1 vs the brown ones based on the previous versions of this keycap set, so for the sake of simplicity we're just doing the one version of brown alphas and red mods. That said, definitely open to doing additional mod kits in future runs if the support is there.
AlexPkHow much support would be needed roughly to run brown mods and fkeys or even grey fkeys that match the breadbin C64s? I really really wanted to have the full set in brown, alpha's, mods and all.
somecarlosguyGet Brown mods gang together to upvote this post which I will use as a mini interest check.
edit: talking with Yanbo about getting brown added in. I don't know if there will be a minimum buyers caveat or anything, but keep you posted.

AlexPkI hope people see this, stuff gets lost in the feed so easily. Brown would be my dream set; I got into mechanical keyboards wanting to build a C64 replica! Susuwatari or MT3 WOB have been the closest I've found so far.
AlexPkYeah I’m just not understanding the 4 to 1 number. I’d like to see the source of that data, honestly. I’m looking here and on Geekhack and Keebtalk, and not a single person wants red mods. What “other” sets are you comparing this to? You don’t have data for the SA or DSA versions that ran before Drop existed. The GMK version didn’t make it to MOQ and simply wasn’t a good fit for this colorway. Is there some other set I’m unaware of that you’re getting data from.
I highly recommend you reconsider.
you and me both, I have two sets of susus but brown would be my dream set just plain to make my commodore replica. I did the bbox 60 and it would look perfect on it
AlexPk35 upvotes, how many are needed for it to happen? I'd love to buy this but the reds wouldn't match the look of what I'm doing.

GeekLevelAsianAnd lots more across other comments and posts. Matt3o did say that Drop had inquired about alternate color codes, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
AlexPkHey Alex, you need to make it more visible, cause I just spent 10 minutes looking for this comment to upvote it. Could you maybe add a sticky on top of Discussions?
AlexPkHey Alex, with only a few weeks left...would I have to purchase the Brown alphas and then buy Brown modifiers? Or will it all be available in one Brown-only set?
somecarlosguyLet me check on that
edit: Looks like we're just waiting on a quote from the factory. Should hopefully get that back this week/next week as the factories open back up after CNY
GeekLevelAsianIt'll be a modifier addon kit. I'm talking with Yanbo about the best way to do this because I know a number of people are waiting to see the brown mods before they get the base kit. The problem is there are no renders to share or put on the page so it's mostly just a logistical issue at this point.
AlexPkOk so that's good to know though. Because I'm trying to do this in the most affordable way possible. So if I do the $95 base kit, the modifiers will come out later. I just didn't want a full brown set to come out for like $110 and then I just screwed myself over because I didn't wait.
AlexPkI'd purchase with only seeing a crude 2d drawing of the caps as long as I know they're coming and will match the alphas.
Heck, I'd buy if there was a link to purchase with an "image coming soon" placeholder saying it's a brown modifier kit to replace all burgundy will the same brown as the alphas.
GeekLevelAsianI hear ya. Hopefully the brown mods will launch here shortly, and you can always cancel or move things around as needed for the next few months too.
@PixelPusherXX I'm of the same mind, but I can also see there being confusion due to the fact that the 2d images might look wildly different in color from the renders or otherwise. I think everyone involved just wants things buttoned down to minimize confusion and the risk of any errors.
AlexPkI saw this on Matt3o's blog..."So no Dark Speech Tolkien keycaps, no Elven dices, no full brown Retro, no MT2 set designed by me (in contrast to what I announced few hours ago)."
So there will be no full brown set?
Matt3o posted this on his website today. He's working with a company to make a keyboard that emulates the Commadore64! @AlexPk this is legit what we're all trying to do lol.
Maskarit's not supposed to be a re-issue but a re-imagination. doesn't matter though anyway, the keycap set was kabashed so I doubt this is even happening

GeekLevelAsianIt sounded a few weeks ago like Matt3o was still working on prototypes of the case with Vortex, and there was hope that eventually Drop might take another stab at Retro as a limited, all-brown set. Aluminum prices were becoming a concern in terms of whether the case would go forward, though.
GeekLevelAsianAdding function keys on the left side just seems a lot like adding burgundy and green keycaps on the retro keycaps set, which obviously should have been full brown with optional grey mods. Just painful to see when it has such potential imo.
is there any reason why the iso kit does not have front printed legends?

Right? Weird considering the C64 had the quote mark on the number 2 key, just like UK ISO, and a dedicated £ key. You wind up losing some PETSCII symbols if you try to make this more true to the original layout.
More details on kits and such will be uploaded in the next few days, but yes the colors will be brown alphas, red mods, and then the green hobbyist kit.
