Desoldering, Mill-Maxing, And Why You Might Want To Learn Both
Thanks to StoryboardTech’s fantastic article, you finally learned how to solder! Or at least, you’re committed to learning. So, what’s next? Well, if you’re brave enough, why not learn how to desolder as well? And when you feel confident with that, how about Mill-Max? You don’t necessarily have to know or learn how to solder before learning how to desolder or Mill-max, but in my opinion, getting comfortable with soldering is a great step towards learning how to do the other two, and if you know how to solder, you can practice desoldering and mill-maxing to your heart’s content since you’ll already have the tools from learning how to solder! Well, at least most of the tools. Let’s start off with the good ol’ disclaimer section first, however. Disclaimer These are my own opinions and my own thoughts, and if I’ve learned anything in life, it’s that we all do things in slightly different ways. Whether it be deadlifting, desoldering, Mill-Maxing or even baking...

If we had to satisfy every request of every custom keyboard we would end up with 100 super specialized kits each of which would probably cost over $150.
Granite is not an "Ergodox" or "Minila" or "Poker" or whatever set. It's a generalist keycap set. The purpose of Granite is to cover as many keyboards as possible within the most reasonable price tag.
Someone may not know that the more kits we have, the more expensive they are because sales are diluted among all of them. *** So adding a new set, or distributing keys differently to better cover a specific keyboard may actually have the effect of increasing the cost! *** On MD you just see 2 or 3 tiers but Signature Plastics tiers are much more granular (10,15,25,50,75,100,...) and the price starts becoming interesting at 75+
I find the "I don't like the X kit" incredibly selfish because you are putting your own preference over the one of the whole community. Granite is all about letting everybody grab a complete set of PBT keycaps for a wide range of keyboards.
This doesn't mean that there's no room for improvement, that's what Interest Checks are for. Granite was developed in months over GH, DT and Reddit. I suggest the next time you join the interest checks, I never rejected a good suggestion. Honestly, the drama queen is not going to bring you anywhere.
The fact that people don't like X kit takes away the wide compatibility of Granite with other keyboards. I still however think that perhaps SP could reduce the price a little bit more due to the large amount of people who've joined this drop. Apart from that one little thing about pricing, I think Granite is a great set.
