Product Description
Made in Asia and hand-finished in England, the Parson’s Essential fountain pen is highly resistant to scratching, thanks to the piano-lacquer finish applied to its barrel. It’s lined with brass for added weight and durability, and fitted with a screw-on cap that can be posted snugly without affecting the pen’s balance Read More

Looking to buy one of these in the Blue Marble color with a Extra Broad Cursive nib. Hoping Drop can add this option combo next time.

Does the pen come with ink?
dianed1966No. You will need to use bottled ink or cartridges.

I heard that European fine is like a Japanese medium, so how does Italix Parson's Essential fine nib compare to Pilot Metropolitan Medium nib? Is the line thinner, the same, or wider?

netorare-chanHi, I own 4 Italix pens, 3 in fine - and they tend towards being generous smooth nibs. I think that you would most likely find them to be on par with a medium Japanese. The #5 (Parson size nib) tends to be slightly wider than my Metropolitan medium, but not much at all. The #6 nibs (Chruchman and Chaplain) are regrinded medium nibs to fine size, and they tend to be closer to medium's still IMHO.

I've been enjoying the Chaplain's Tankard so much that I had to grab this one too. Doing the Fine Cursive nib again as that has been a real treat to write with. I ditched the converter post adapter doodad tho, left it in the box. Interesting idea but I don't mind filling my converters the old fashioned way.

Is this pen a decent purchase(quality, ease of converter) for a beginner to fountain pens? My daughter has expressed having a nice pen to use for her writing, she likes to write little short stories and poems. I figured a fountain pen would give her that little bit of whimsy and help encourage her to write more. She loves them. We have gone through about this much $ in cheap throw away FP's from Walmart.

bfitzYes, it should be. It is a nice looking pen and it writes very well. It's a little on the heavy side for a fountain pen but I am assuming your daughter is in her teens so she shouldn't have any problems with it. She should be very pleased with it. Here is a review of the pen by a couple of popular on line fountain pen enthusiasts that might help you make a decision. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvow4QJenRk

Question: How much was the pen in the last drop?

FYI - the nib unit can be unscrewed and swapped with a current Levenger True Writer. It doesn’t look like it would at first but it does. I found the brass body of this pen too heavy to write with for long periods and the barrel step down too sharp for comfort. But my CI nib flies in my TW. I’ll probably give away the Parson/Levenger nib pen and keep my new hybrid :)
