The switch tester is a fairly sturdy piece of acrylic and has been a great way to teach others about the differences in mechanical switches. It, more than my keyboards, was a gateway for my wife to realize that she wanted a keyboard of her own. She had fun picking the switches. My only gripe is that some of the switches are a bit loose and fall out easily, but that shouldn't be a dealbreaker for anyone.
I love it. It has been sitting on my office desk for about two weeks and every time someone visits they always play with it. It has helped me encourage some of my coworkers(developers) to look into getting a mechanical keyboard. Sad part is they all seem to like the quiet ones.

My opinion is this is 3 star but I am too scared that people's careers are on the line if I don't make it five star. So this is my 3 star review and includes a request for help.
I selected the default options when ordered. Ordered March 15 and arrived June 14. The delay is understandable. The packaging was lovely. The product showing without labels on the keycaps is frustrating. I feel silly. Of course I would have paid the $5 to see the names on the keycaps -- I'm learning, that's why I bought this thing! Can I pay $5 and get the keycaps with the labels? The pictures all have the keycaps with the labels and it feels misleading to put an upcharge option in the photos but the default lacks the labels. The effectiveness of the product is materially impacted by not having the names on the keys, and I recommend improved photos to show what you order without paying more. I would be very interested in understanding how I can know what I am clicking. Do I just copy from the pictures onto a piece of paper the names? Disappointed but hopeful. Buyer beware. This feels like a bait and switch. Also none of the 17 photos show you what you get with the base purchase.
Also the email you get when you purchase shows it with the labeled keycaps. You only find out you messed up when you open the box.

Edit: June 26, 2020 confirmed there is no recourse. No option to buy the extra caps. No option to be put in touch with the vendor. This is a one-time issue that has no service recovery.

Great collection of switches and the labelled caps are great.
I just wish it was possible to get the metal frame separate. I have never found it and the acrylic one is kinda meh to be honest.
4 stars because of the base.
I picked this one up shortly after also purchasing the acrylic one - ill timed drops and/or money grubbing but they got me. The aluminum case and labeled keycaps were the main selling points for me since the cutouts on the acrylic version came with unlabeled caps and the cutouts weren't very well done. The quality of the aluminum case is excellent, switches hold in place firmly but can be removed easily as well. I'd buy it again.
It's a good deal for the price and the number of switches you can test... if they were all correct. I checked every single one by removing the keycaps, looking up pictures online to try and identify the unique aspects (color of the stems, the switch housing, label, etc.) Like many people, I had a couple sets transposed:
1-8 Cherry Tactile Gray <> 1-9 Cherry Linear Gray. Pretty obvious which one should be which.
Some were impossible to identify, like Zealios 62g, 65g, and 67g - I could not tell the differences in actuation force. To be completely honest, the 67g felt lighter to me than the 65g and may very well be transposed, but 2g difference is not a big deal to me. I'm pretty confident that the rest are correct and I do hope this doesn't come to bite me in the future.
I gave this a 2 star since this is meant to be a BASELINE testing unit... which should be held to a higher standard so that you're not building on mistakes. Obviously it's not a big deal to swap the keycaps with each other (once identified!!), but it would've sucked if I had ordered 100 wrong switches. I wouldn't really recommend this to a friend since it really can't be trusted as a test unit... how do I know if someone else's won't come with different sets transposed?
The acrylic board is thick, shiny, well engineered and looking nice.
The keycaps are really what makes this board a must-have.
One less star because some switches were swapped between each other. I thought I loved the Kailh Speed Copper but no, after some research it appeard that it was in fact the Gold, keycaps were misplaced.
Another less star because, worst of all, some switches are missing... I've got a Cherry Rgb Black in two places of the board, and so I'm missing the Zealios 78g.
And that's only what I found out after a few minutes of tinkering with the board. Who knows what I'll find out if I disassemble everything?
This thing is awesome. It's basically my fidget toy. I've been clicking the keys non-stop. But like another reviewer stated, some of the switches seem to be mislabeled. Based on what the other reviewer was saying, they seem to be the same ones that were switched.
The Cherry Linear Gray and Cherry Tactile Gray were swapped. As well as the Kailh Speed Copper and the Kailh Speed Bronze. I really like the Kailh Speed Bronze, but it was sent to me labeled as the Kailh Speed Copper on my tester. The only reason I know is because I almost ordered Kailh Speed Copper switches but the description said they were tactile. After further research, it turns out the Copper is tactile and the Bronze is clicky. Crisis averted.
The rest seem to be correctly labeled as far as I can tell, but honestly they need some better labeling on switches in general.
It has most of the switches but the important ones such as zilents, holy pandas, sakuros etc.
Half of it is filled with redundant cherry, gateron and kailh red, blue, black
Which doesn't help average customer to choose. Cherrys are more scratchier then it's clones.
After 5-10 mins you will toss it away and will not touch it.
SirAreYouOkWould you consider selling me your switch tester? I'm pretty new to the mechanical keyboard scene but would love to become more familiar with switches and their brands. This kit with the labeling seems like the mose useful of them all so far
Be careful and sanity check your choice - some keys were definitely swapped
My Kailh Speed Bronze keycap and Kailh Speed Copper keycaps were definitely switched and in the wrong locations upon receipt. I verified on all sorts of websites, checked the darkness of color under the keycap, etc. So while this is a wonderfully built tester kit, it feels like it is just a little important these things are accurate so somebody doesn’t order the wrong thing. Absolutely 5/5 stars for the aluminum one which is heavy and nice but I have to dock a star because for a kit meant to help you choose a switch the keycaps have to be on the right switches. So if you read this I say 5/5 just make sure you sanity check the color and maker of the one you like under the keycap before you order it. This was especially important for me because I ended up liking and ordering the Bronze…and very easily could have ordered Copper, which I’m not drawn toward.
danullThe Kailh Speed Bronze and Kailh Speed Copper was switched on mine as well. Along with the Cherry Grays. I almost ordered Coppers but what I really wanted was the Bronze.
RonnieSanGlad to hear I'm not alone! I did not notice the Cherry Tactile Grey/Cherry Linear Grey but I think you are right they appear to be switched. They were never serious contenders so didn't spend any time with them ;-) Hope you enjoy the Bronzes, I am happy with mine so far.
There is a major issue with this key switch tester. A substantial number of the switches are transposed. Thus, the labeling is useless. I don't know if this is just my unit, but it makes it impossible to select a switch. I had to do a lot of guessing to put them in the right order, but this defeats the purpose of such a device.
ThierryIsAbleOh, yes. I bought a set of Kaihl speed Bronze thinking they were tactiles (as they showed in the tester) and... Well, they're turned to be the clickiest switches ever.
GabilondiThat really sucks. Yeah, if you don't already know each variant on the board, it'll lead to you buying the wrong switches! I'm afraid that many people will be buying the wrong switches thanks to this switch tester.
