Is it possible for connections to be on the back? I honestly don't understand why people continue to put the ports on the side.

It is microUSB for power, not USB type C.
The microUSB is also necessary for communicating touchscreen interaction to the connected device, so power & data to be specific (unless you want display-only non-touchscreen, a USB charger plugged into an outlet may work in that scenario.)

Does this come with the stand pictured? The stand isn't listed in the details and I don't see a way to select it for purchase.
