DrewMajority of MBP and MBA are internal graphics that will support the external display through thunderbolt, but nothing extremely like playing video games or like that. But browsing and and movies should be fine.

DrewEasily.. the rMBP 15" can handle two 27" 2560x1440p screens and it's own.. so just this and the rMBP's own Retina screen, which runs at 2880 x 1800, should be just fine... Especially, if like me, you have the rMBP 15" model w/discreet graphics (nVidia GT 750M w/2GB GDDR5)
Intel Iris Pro version would do it as well, but like @adudeinblue said, games wouldn't be great. It would be fine for standard workflow and some light photo / video work though. The Intel Iris Pro has some onboard memory and actually nearly on par with the older nVidia GT 650M in many respects.
Intel has been finally starting to catch up to discreet graphics.. not there yet, but getting close low to mid range.
