Can anyone comment on how this compares to the MecArmy IllumineX Series that's currently an active drop? That is substantially lower in price, and the specs look very similar.

sudevaI don't own either of these lights yet, I'm also looking at picking up one or the other. From what I can tell these are the differences:
MecArmy IllumineX Stainless Steel $21.99 Cree XP-G2 130 lumens Built-in USB charging port Comes with 1 battery and a chain/lanyard 1.7" x .5"
Maratac Peanut LED Stainless Steel $39.99 Cree XP-G2 S4 145 lumens Seperate screw-on charging head Comes with 2 batteries, waterproof spare battery case, zip pouch, USB cable 1.3" x .5"
Basically the Maratac is smaller, potentially brighter, comes with a spare battery, USB cable and a couple other extras. Up to you if that's worth the extra $18. It's interesting that the MecArmy light claims to be "the world's smallest USB rechargeable flashlight" but the Maratac is nearly a half-inch smaller, probably because the charging port isn't built into the light's body. Personally I would probably go with the Maratac just for the smaller size.
