I mostly purchased this keyboard for the nice, firm switches - I have some sensory impairments in my right side that make it hard to tell how hard I'm resting my fingers on keys, and I accidentally activate keys regularly. The keys here are fairly resistant to those accidental keystrokes.
The keyboard itself is... OK. Not my favorite style, but it works just fine. I think I prefer TKL over this profile, but that's on me and I didn't dock this anything for that.
Great compact keyboard. The LEDs work well and look great. The keycaps are basic but easily swappable if that's what you want. Only works with 3-pin switches.
Well $h1t, original and replacement ALT Drop boards are now paperweights.
I want to give this board 4 stars, customer support was nice enough to honor my warranty a bit past the 1 year mark when the first one had multiple keys stop working suddenly. It also suffered from random disconnects & LEDs turning off, requiring a power cycle, typically multiple times a day.
The replacement lasted just 2.5yrs, and yet again multiple keys have just stopped working. After looking at reviews I quickly located ~15 customers that are suffering the same failure, many right around the same time frame. It would appear there is a manufacturer defect being ignored by support which is very disheartening given the cost of this board.
I've a bad taste in my mouth after all the time & money spent modding this keeb only to end up with another dead $200 keyboard. Case is awesome, keycaps solid, stabs suck, sound meh until you add foam, PCB is a POS. Don't recommend.
Was a great keyboard to get into the hobby with, there are definitely much better keyboards for the price (even after V2 upgrades) but it has its place, and its got a great look for getting your Capital G Gamer friends into keyboards.
I have the kaihua box white switches they don’t fit properly in the holes of the keyboard so if you try and take the key caps off it pulls the switches up then it drops back down bending the pin on the bottom, I’ve had to bend them back multiple times once when I got the keyboard and then the rest after a light cleaning
Pros:
Customizable
Hotswap switches
Cool design
Cons:
Replacement feet near impossible to find
Issues with USB C ports not working
I bought this keyboard and have mained it for over a year. I'm just left wanting more since other brands offer more features for less. The build quality is nice, but I was happier with my Keychron. Obviously, this is a preference thing, so if you like the design, have the money, and don't mind missing wireless, it's a decent board.
I've had this keyboard for about 3 years now. It has endured hardcore gaming, a few moves, some drops, some poor storage conditions and it just keeps rolling on like a tank.
I bought it right when I got my first job out of college. This keyboard and my computer were practically the first time I ever really splurged on myself. I remember thinking at the time that the price was prohibitive and second guessed myself when it came to buying it. I pulled the trigger and justified this expense by underspending on my other peripherals. Putting the money on the table was well worth it. Every other peripheral that I bought has long been dead or deteriorated to a point where I had to replace them. At that point, I was much more comfortable spending the money to get quality products that matched the standard of this keyboard.
I don't even really remember how I found Drop, but I've never once regretted owning this keyboard.
Some extra info for those interested:
I would categorize this as a louder keyboard than most with tactile. My microphone can detect key presses even when my gain quite low. Personally, I like a good sound to it. So if you want something silent, you might need to do some customization to the keys.
I'd say the keys are a good mix of stiff and flexible. I do not experience any wobble or drift with exception to the space bar and shift key, but those are very minimal in my opinion. Everything else is rock solid but takes little effort to register the command that you want.
