Hello everyone!
I’m excited to announce our newest Massdrop Made product, the Peak Merino Hoodie. This beefy, 340gsm 100% merino hoodie was inspired by the best hoodies of the last decade and designed for long-term active use, whether outdoors or during your daily commute.
Made in the USA: We partnered with a high-quality domestic factory located in Allentown, Pennsylvania to cut and sew this hoodie. Allentown has a rich history of American manufacturing, and we wanted to partner that with the highest quality merino wool to bring a truly amazing product to market.
Australian Merino Wool: When thinking of high quality merino wool, there is no question that the best product comes from Australia and New Zealand. Our merino wool supplier has been producing wool for 35 years and sources non-muesled wool from regulated animal welfare focused farms. They are also pioneering local wool production sustainability but incorporating a water treatment facility which cuts down water usage by 40%.
Partnering with Wool Experts: In addition to a high quality American factory and Australian wool supplier, we partnered with friend and wool expert Chad North to oversee the development and sourcing of all of our materials and trims. You may know Chad as the founder of NorthxNorth, a US based brand known for their merino wool kerchiefs and neck gaiters. Working with Chad allowed us the opportunity to tap into his years of knowledge in working with merino wool, to ensure this hoodie offers the best in quality materials, features and construction.
Fit: We analyzed the fits of some of the best hoodies in the market, as well as merino hoodies from multiple brands, to land on the best of each to offer a unique, and thoughtfully designed fit. The overall fit is on the slimmer side to offer a clean aesthetic for office use, and allow the features of the wool to come through.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns! We’ve designed this hoodie with the intent that this will be your new everyday go-to, from commuting to office to outdoor weekend adventures!
Thanks everyone!
Kim
kim.suarezThe chest size for XS says 117.5 inches, which I'm sure is a typo.
I don't know how they do the sizing for hoodies, but wouldn't it be easier to specify what the chest size is for the circumference of the chest like they do for dress shirts/jackets (for example: 38 / 40 chest size) ? Looking at the numbers, either the hoodie is incredibly small on the chest, or the measurement is just for the chest across the front of the hoodie.
jaeun87You are correct! Thanks for catching that typo.
And yes, the measurements include on the half. This is how garments are measured internally in apparel companies, but agree that outward facing, the full circumference is more common. We'll update that to avoid any confusion.
kim.suarezUsing internal measurements as opposed to what customers are accustomed to seeing on the (cyber) rack at stores. I'm totally comfortable ordering a jacket sized 42R, or a dress shirt sized 16 (34/35) but don't know the internal measurements and don't particularly want to go measure garments in my closet.
I consider myself a pretty savvy shopper in regard to men's clothing, but even I struggle with the use of those internal measurements - I have no frame of reference.
Vintage1982BenzTotally understand! We're updating the size chart now to reflect standard measurements that you would see on similar product sites. It's just doubling a couple measurements (chest and bottom opening), but all else is matching to what you would find elsewhere. Love the feedback though!
kim.suarez“but all else is matching to what you would find elsewhere.”
Not sure about that, as someone with long arms who has resigned himself to the fact Massdrop doesn’t seem to believe in Tall sizing, I can’t figure out how the sleeve length of these compares to other jackets. Why not list the length from center back to the end of the sleeves like most? Not being familiar with garment industry terms, I’m not sure what measurements I’m supposed to be adding up to get the measurement I’m used to.
Rick_in_ICTWithin the industry, it's done both ways. Either sleeve length from CB or sleeve length from cap. In this case, the sleeve length from cap is used as this was the measurements received from our pattern maker. To measure this, it's taken from the top of the sleeve (at the seam) and then down to the bottom of the rib.
kim.suarezOh okay thanks! This will need to be cleared up in the description, as it states "Australian merino wool". (NZ and Australia are two separate countries).
SmithyNZYa we were keeping it simple in the description but technically the wool is sourced from both countries, even though the mill is Australian based. Sorry for any confusion!
bhstyleAh I wish! Unfortunately, the manufacturing timeline is what it is for this project. Might be worth exploring for future projects, but we usually try to push for manufacturing as quickly as we can while maintaining high quality standards. Thanks for checking!
bhstyleIt can ship faster at a lower price (maybe $50) if it was made in Asia.
This is essentially fast fashion. People don’t have the time or the money to wait on stuff.
jeletaHi! What size do you normally wear in hoodies? The fit is a little slim in the body when it's true to size, but most people find they still wear their normal size.
kim.suarezHi Kim, is there any sort of return policy available if the fit is poor?
If not, do you believe the hoodie will fit someone who is 6' tall and 145 lbs? This generally means either a longer fit on the S or XS, or a slimmer fit on the medium . Thanks for your help.
kim.suarezHi Kim - In the drop and ordered the thumb holes option. Can you confirm if the sleeves will be slightly longer on the ones with thumbholes? I am 6'-4" Tall and 218lbs. and usually order dress shirts with 37" sleeves. I ordered a large.
JAK9The sleeve lengths are the same for each - we found in testing that no one seemed to have issue with the length of the sleeves with the thumbholes. The sleeve length will be close to 36" from center back to end of rib on the large
kim.suarezHey Kim I requested the drop, and I *thought* (still think, actually) I placed an order, but I noticed when I was looking at the drop that it was offering me the button join the drop.
Only I thought I had. Now the size and configuration I want is unavailable. Any chance to still join for my ursine, manly size?
kim.suarezHi Kim - thanks for the response. Hmmm - I am struggling with the a thumbhole being at the same length as the normal sleeve length...that would indicate that the normal sleeve length should hit around the wearer's knuckles. What is the measurement between the thumbhole an end of the rib please?
TeuchterI think they changed the site to no longer show existing purchases on product pages. The purchase should still have been registered though. Click the 3 dots in the top right of the page, then select "transactions". You can also go to your profile and select the drops tab. If it shows up in those locations, then the order was registered properly.
KadosGah, it's there. I am living up to my name. I searched my confirmation emails and didn't find it, but it is in fact listed under my transactions. I am simply sleep-deprived and unable to coherently string my thoughts together.
Thank you for your help, friend.
TeuchterSorry for the delayed reply. Unfortunately, we only made a certain amount for these, of which most sizes now seem to be sold out. But we will hopefully be making more!
kim.suarezI'm good to go. I didn't know MassDrop changed their website layout, so I was looking for proof of my order and not finding it. Someone explained the changes, and I found my order right where they said. All good. I am ready for my hoodie. Preferably before it gets too cold to wear it.
kim.suarezHey Kim, I just bought the Hoodie yesterday but didn't have a thumbhole. Let me ask you, can you make an exception and get me one with thumbhole? if u can
jeletaUnfortunately, I can't do anything from my end but you could reach out to our Community Support team and www.massdrop.com/support. Sorry I cannot be more helpful :(
kim.suarezHi Kim,
Any updates on when our Peak Merino Hoodie will be shipped?
I am going out of the country and do not want it stolen before I return home.
Thanks!
SunCityJonwe are getting screwed over. notice how they answered everyone when it was still for sale and now that it is over they haven't said anything for months and are ignoring everyone.
KadosBecouse they first promised to ship before Christmas and then delayed it and when people ask for an update they get ignored. It seems pretty obvious why people are upset. Now they finally gave an update but they pushed the shipping date back even more. I have participated in multiple drops and never got a shipping delayed. Most of them even send it a week before the shipping date. The only one why keeps pushing back the shipping date is mass drop themselves.
KadosI got an email from the massdrop team that says the following: "We wanted to give a heads up that we’re now tracking a few weeks behind our original estimated ship date and we expect to begin shipping this product in late January."
FearceAh, ok. Just checked my email and i got it also. They are reopening cancellations for those who do not want to wait though, which is good. I doubt most other companies would do the same, or at the very least it would require going through CS to manually request it.
FearceIm agreeing with you. Massdrop always pulls this shit. Same with the OLED TVs they couldn't get, the custom SAK they botched and then ignored, then lied about, then finally refunded. This is the reason many suppliers stopped working with massdrop or essentially use it as a dumping ground for late model equipment and merchandise.
I wouldnt mind the delay in shipping if it was properly and honestly communicated but its not. It never is and thats my problem
kim.suarezHey Massdrop UX - is there a way to unsubscribe from threads? I'd love to not get a notification every time someone complains on here about a product you are sourcing, designing, producing and shipping from the ground up when an occasional and understandable delay occurs.
Still looking forward to my hoodie in the 2019, Happy Holidays to those working behind the scenes at Massdrop! Your satisfied customers never say anything, the unreasonable ones are always the loudest.
Vintage1982BenzI'm perfectly fine with delays if they just tell people instead of ignoring people. I'm pretty sure they already knew they would never be able to get everything to the customers BEFORE Christmas. they just said it to get more customers and now they keep pushing it back
FearceSure, and this wasn't directed specifically at you - I've been getting alerts about comments on this thread for the past 3.5 months!
Also - I thought the original ship date was projected at 01/04/19?
FearceUnderstand the frustration. The original date was before Christmas and then January 2, but yes very sorry for the delay. We want to make sure these are perfect for everyone!
AngibirdSo sorry for the delay! We just needed to draft a response and get the dates in order with the factory. We are facing a slight delay until the end of January. Really sorry about that!
Vintage1982BenzI expect a response when I’m looking for one. I expect a level of professionalism. I expect to get the items I paid for in the time frame initially agreed upon. I expect to receive updates in the time frame quoted to me. I expect a company that already has my money, has gotten my money in the past, to act as if they want my money in the future. Or am I expecting too much? You tell me since you’re so concerned
Vintage1982BenzHmm let me look into that for you. If not, then it would be a good idea to have a "mute" option on larger discussions. And happy holidays to you as well!
SunCityJonThat would work, but it would remove notifications for every conversation. It doesn't look like we have anything for just ignoring a specific discussion.
Gunnersmate2Thanks so much for being a member of the community! It's always a blast to be able to communicate directly with everyone and I apologize for some of the challenges we've faced on recent drops.
kim.suarezI'll be riding horses through a jungle in Central America next week but would love to know if my hoodie will arrive before my early spring camping trip in the Appalachians!
