if you are looking for an enjoyable headphone. One that is pleasant and pleasing to listen to after a long day at work, just get a pair of these. I have had mine since the end of 2016. I was able to jump into the original drop of the HD6xx. I have bought several other headphones throughout this time and I always ended up with these.
the 6xx lacks quantity in bass, but it does not lack quality. it has enough for genres like Jazz, not enough for other genres though. I am currently powering my 6xx through the Massdrop Liquid Carbon and it just such a beautiful pairing. There is zero fatigue. the liquid carbon adds a bit of umph on the bass too.
these are great headphones for vocals. Male & female
After almost 3 years of buying and selling headphones, these are still sitting on my desk, because I have not found a better value than these anywhere
From the painless ordering process to making sure that the product arrived on time professionally packaged, along with an invoice to the actual product itself - the HD 6XX - Wow! I have been listening to music for over 40 years and have never heard my music like this before. Little nuances that were never heard before come out here. Not like hearing it for the first time, but like hearing a different mix of the same song. Very impressive Drop, please give yourselves a big hand for making these beautiful headphones even more available for all to enjoy!
Open backs project sound both towards your ears and out the sides of the earpieces.
This makes the sound feel as if they are coming from further away. Good for replicating the directions of where each vocals and instruments are coming from; like at a concert. Close backs sound as if the music is coming from the centre of your head; you get less "directional" experience but they feel more intimate.
Open backs leak sound so if you are riding on public transport, the people sitting next to you might look at you sideways wonder why you are playing music for everyone around you.
Most high end headphones are open back so don't worry about losing any sound quality from the leakage!
im epileptic and ive had quite a few seizures wearing them including one where i crushed the nice hinged box it comes in. Ive had them 3 years and the only problems i have run into are rust on the outside grill, but i sweat alot and wear them all day most days and i got new ear cups. highly recommend

Best entry to audiophile headphones
For $200, these are definitely one of the best headphones. They are on the warmer side and are very relaxing to listen to for hours. They are also quite comfortable. The clamp force out of the box was strong but it loosens over time. My source is the xduoo ta-22 but with rca clear top tubes. They match beautifully.

My most listened to headphone I have
I have many headphones, but these are the ones I listen to the most by far. There is nothing offensive about them. They are not fatiguing at all. They are incredibly comfortable. People talk about clamp force. I have a big head and it does not bother me at all. If you are more concerned with vocals and dialogue, then these are the ones for you. These along with the HD600 are best for that from my experience. These do need a good amp to sound their best. They will produce sound out of lesser amps and devices, but when used with a more substantial amp, the bass becomes so much more authoritative and controlled. Very pleasing. I love these headphones. I also would like to mention that I much prefer this older frame used with these versus the newer design of the new products. These make no noise at all where my HD660s are super creaky. I use clothed electric tape between the top of the ear cup and the swivel to eliminate that, but the HD6XX I don't have to do anything to them as there is no creaking. Also when handling they just feel more solid to me too versus the newer style frame used by Sennheiser. I also love that everything is replaceable and they are very easy to take apart if needed. I use these for gaming, movies, and music.

Disappointing
Bass is boomy rather than deep. HD? No, not really. There is a lack of detail and immediacy, as if I was in a big, heavily draped room with far away speakers slightly muffled. They sound better than a set of $50 'phones I have but not by much. I've got a $30 Logitech USB on ear headset with mic that sounds almost as good. I also started using a pair of OnePlus Earbuds 3 recently. They sound a lot better than this Sennheiser set. Blow it out of the water, in fact!
That out of the way, the Senn is quite comfortable, perhaps the most comfortable over ear 'phones I've ever used but again, the Oneplus buds 3 beat this set because they're even more comfortable. I forget I have them in, can't forget the 6XX is on.
lenard.greenI don't trust you. What source you were used? If it was the output from your crappy 40-years old IBM, so yes it could possibly sounds like you described. But if you'll use the proper source with a headroom of power you will not leave the comment like you did. 300 Ohm impedance is a power required parameter, you can't fuel Ferrari with a cheap gas and test the performance then. Get something like iFi Zen Dac V2, test it and if you'll get the same results - book a doctor appointment to check your ears.

My best headphones so far
Using it with FiiO K7, the sound is great (especially for the money).
Earpads lasts only 6 month and sound quality decreased. Also, the 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter was defective. But otherwise these are great headphones
