I brought these a few months ago and I don't understand all the great reviews. When these first came out there were literally dozens of videos, all praising these. I've never seen so many positive reviews. I was so excited when I got them. I was expecting to listen to them and hear the voice of God. Instead I was very disappointed. I burned these in for many hours, making sure that I would get the best results. I have a couple of Sennheiser IEMs and wireless cans. I loved that sound. With these I'm not getting any soundstage or that separation that is so cool. A lot of reviewers recommend the Fiio Q1 Mark II to accompany these. I bought this just knowing that it was going to fix everything. It helped a little. I can't believe that so many people loved these so much and mine were nothing special. Am I doing something wrong? I would appreciate any suggestions. I want to love these the way that thousands of people do.

MusicmaniacIf you bought these within the first few months of 2019 it is likely that you got one of the first pairs made in Romania. Sennheiser moved their production line from Ireland to Romania and a few of the first pairs made in this new factory were tested by Sonarworks and proved to sound significantly different from the original legendary Sennheiser. You can check out the link in my comment, just two comments bellow yours, that gives more details (featuring plots and discussion) regarding the "strange" sounding Sennheiser HD650. HD6XX are made in the same factory so your pair might be one of those "strange" sounding pairs, as the guy from Sonarworks named them.

musictracerMusictracer, Thanks for taking your time to answer my question. Sorry that I've taken so long in responding. I did follow your advice. It seems that I'm pretty much stuck. I know to a lot of people $200.00 isn't much, but it is to me. It's terrible how people are taken advantage of, or maybe I should say swindled. With that said, Is there anyone out there who would like to get a great deal on some, very well, reviewed headphones? Haha.

MusicmaniacI was very excited when they started a new drop in the EU. In EU we have to pay $80 more to get them so it's even more than what you paid. I got them a few days ago and my experience is identical to yours. I am very disappointed. They sound dull with lack of definition in the mid and highs. Later on I found out that Sennheiser opened a new Romanian factory just about a month ago... Probobly I am one of the "lucky" ones to get one of their first unballanced "strange" sounding pairs, just like the Sonarworks guy implied in the link I directed you to. I spoke with Judi H. from the community who was quite responsive and she informed me that, to make use of the warranty I should send them to the US rather than returning them to the EU country where I got them from. That is terrible because I will have to pay probably more than double shipping costs plus possible extra import/export taxes! But of course Drop intentionally avoided to note that in the product description. They just put a EU badge next to the product photo so that we think we'll have to deal with some EU representatives... So my next step is to try to spot another HD650 or HD6xx in my town to compare them with mine and see how I'll move on from there. I'd advice you to do the same. I assume you live in the States so it will be a lot easier and cheaper to claim a warranty return or repair of your pair. I am going to make a new comment about the warranty claim in EU so that more possible EU buyers are aware of what they may get into in case they need to make use of the warranty.

MusicmaniacHi there again, Sorry for bothering you again, I am just trying to figure ou if there is a relation between serial numbers and faulty pairs and I thought I might ask you what the first 4 digits of your serial number are . Mine is 0836XX. Is yours any close to mine?

musictracerHello again, You're not bothering me in the least. I just hope we can get to the bottom of this and what can be done. I'm not sure if this is the serial number. It's on a small label, right above the inside of the left ear cup. That number is : 06329 Cottonwood. If that's not the serial number then mine came without one. I've looked everywhere and that's the only number on these beside the 6xx.

MusicmaniacOk, that's indeed your serial number but I would advise you to edit your last comment by omitting the last 2 digits of your serial number. It is better not to spread that kind of personal information in public discussions in my opinion. You never know how scammers can take advantage of it... As for the number itself, it seems distant than mine so they can't be related. On the other hand, I asked Sennheiser to inform me about the production date and origin of my pair through my serial number and they said that I should address Drop for that. When I asked Drop Samantha K (Drop representative) initially informed me that they don't have that type of information and when I insisted by telling her that it is impossible for a company that sells Serial Numbered products not to keep record of the dates and origin of their production she replayed saying that she asked the "extended team" and they told her that I should address Sennheiser for that type of information. I mean can you imagine?!?! I am like a tennis ball between Drop and Sennheiser for such a simple request... It's really strange that they avoid to give that information, though I want to believe they do it out of ignorance rather than expediency. I knocked on Sennheiser's door once again and I hoping for a reply. We'll see... One more thing to keep in mind though is that every month Drop ships roughly 7 Sennheiser's products which end up being returned. There is a Drop representative that admitted that in another comment a couple of days ago. You can find it if you browse the comments. So bare that in mind, we are not alone... ;-)

musictracerHello again musictracer, I just edited my last comment to remove the last four numbers. I really appreciate your help. I've read your comment about the trouble with both Sennheiser and Drop. It's disgraceful how these huge companies take advantage of people who would have been extremely loyal customers if treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Does this mean that we are stuck with inferior headphones and out $200.00? Surely there's something that all of these unhappy customers could do. We need to stand together and raise our voices and pens.

MusicmaniacI think the best thing to do for now is try to find another pair of HD650 or HD6XX in your town and compare yours with that. As soon you make sure that yours is faulty - by identifying it in person - you can contact Drop (or Sennheiser possibly) to claim the warranty. That is what I am trying to do also but no luck so far...

MusicmaniacThis is the best audio advice you'll ever get in your life bud; stop engaging in audiophilia nervosa and start enjoying your music and content. You've got one of the proven best Hi-Fi / Rolex headphones in the world. You don't have anything to think about, just enjoy them. Of course if you don't have a decent DAC /AMP they will sound flat and dead, so you have to invest in the right equipment to get them to work fully, because they're 300 ohms. I have the FiiO Q1 Mk II and the 6XX sound great with it, especially with a balanced cable. They're also great with the Topping DX3 Pro as it has 1000 mW power output.

LuckyLuke575It's difficult to enjoy something that's defective. You were lucky enough to get one of the good pair. The pair that I got don't sound like a premium headphone. You said that you have the same Fiio DAC/AMP that I have and get great sound. I don't get anything close to great sound. I've taken these headphones to several audio/video places and everyone has agreed with me. A couple of these places are high end stores. They hooked these up with some very high end AMP/DACs. They tell me that I got robbed. So please keep your sanctimonious opinion to yourself. You haven't listened to these cans. So how do you think you have the right to tell me to just enjoy your great headphones? You're a pompous ass. Don't judge me when you have no idea how these headphones sound.

musictracerJust wanted to tell you to check out the reply I sent to some jerk who told me to just enjoy your headphones, which are some of the best headphones you can get. Easy for him to say. He obviously got a pair that wasn't defective. I can't believe the arrogance of some people. Have you had made any progress with your fight? Please keep me informed.

MusicmaniacHere's some high class advice pal; go and get your hearing checked by medical professionals before spending any more time listening to audio equipment and causing confusion on here. On the other hand if they really are faulty then just sort it out with Massdrop and get them repaired or replaced via warranty. What's the point of bitching and moaning on here? Have you ever listened to 'premium' headphones? What are you comparing to? You're talking out of your ass and pissing people off man.

MusicmaniacGuys, come on, you don't have to be rude to each other! No conversation can benefit with insults. We just share our opinions and experiences here, that's all. As for my case, it just closed a couple of hours ago and probably the best way it could, thanks to Drop's great services! I was given a prepaid shipping label for sending my pair to the States and I was asked whether I wanted a replacement or a full refund. In fear of getting another dull sounding pair as a replacement I chose the full refund option. Today I informed Camilla (Drop representative) who, along with her colleagues, helped me greatly with everything whenever I needed their assistance, that I handed the parcel to UPS packed as she previously had directed me to. Just 6 minutes later I got two emails. One was from Camilla saying that the refund was fulfilled and the other was from paypal confirming the refund. I admit, that was the fastest refund on an e- purchase I have ever experienced in my whole life! It hasn't appear in my account yet but it normally takes a few days till it does. But wait, there's more: Due to foreign exchange, the refunded amount in euro is roughly 12 euros less than I paid when I purchased, but that's something to be expected since I assume that the exchange rate is different than what it was when I placed the order. So I informed Camilla about this and I told her that it was all fine for me, because I knew it had nothing to do with Drop but plausibly with the difference in the exchange rate. And guess what, she replied immediately by saying: "While we're not in control of currency conversion rates, but that being said, we understand the inconvenience with this and we want to help. As such, I have added a $15.00 credit to your account and will expire on October 17, 2020. This will automatically apply to the next run you join and appear as a discount on the checkout page. " This for me is the epitome of a Company with great services that really cares to keep their costumers greatly satisfied even if they ended up returning the product to get a full refund! In a nutshell, I am very pleased with Drop's services even though I had to return the product I got.

LuckyLuke575Hey pal, I believe the only person I'm pissing off is you. I've listened to many high-end headphones and these I bought on this site, sure as hell didn't sound anywhere near as good as those. Getting these repaired or replaced is a lot easier said than done. I can only hope that you find that out first hand. As for your "high class" advice. If you think that about yourself , you're the one who needs professional help. I'm on this site now to find out about people who've had similar experiences. I guess we're all imagining this problem. It seems your on this site to try and show you're wit. I'm glad to tell you, you're failing.

musictracerI'm really glad you had such a great ending to your story. I can only hope that I have a similar outcome. I wish I could talk to the women who helped you. This Camilla sounds as if she's a true professional who legitimately wants the best for Drop customers. There are still some businesses who care and want to do what's right. Hope you're able to find a pair of headphones that sound as great as what most people said about these.

MusicmaniacI think you shouldn't worry at all! As soon as I got the refund and the credit, I asked Camilla if Drop would have any problem of me sharing my experience in the community because I thought they might "worry" that my case might encourage people to return their products for a refund rather than for a replacement and this is what she replied: "We of course have no qualms at all about you sharing your experience. I'm happy to hear you've had a positive experience and we would love for you to share your experience with others. It looks like we followed our policies with this situation, so there will be no problem with you sharing the outcome and resolution with others. I do appreciate you checking with us!" Camilla as well as every other Drop representative I spoke with were very kind, fast responsive and willing to help, so please understand that it is not a matter of one person's mindset or sympathy, but rather of Drop's policies and ethics. I'd advice you to get in touch with them and I am sure you will definitely sort things out together! As for me, I am definitely willing to buy from Drop again! I am a convinced customer for sure and they are a company that deserves to stand high in the market!

musictracer Hello friend, Just wanted to let you know that I got my pair of replacement headphones this afternoon. I've been burning them in ever since. Hopefully in a few days I'll have the superior sound I was missing. I also wanted to thank you for all of your help. I took your advice and contacted Drop. I wasn't able to speak with the women you did. A woman named Marriah helped me and she was extremely helpful. Maybe everyone who got bad cans will be able to do the same and get the great sound they deserve. How is your situation going? After all the people you've helped, you deserve a pair that sounds as great as they should. Thanks again and don't let some people bring you down.
