A suggestion for newbies audiophile wannabes: I purchased the 6xx and I'm extremely disappointed. Now I need to pay to ship them back from Canada, Taxes lost.... Mybae my ears are not ready, sopositaced enough but my sony wh-1000xm4 sound better to my ears. I wanted to like these so much and be wowed but no cigar. Your first purchase shouldn't be online. You should go to a proper audio store and spend some time with proper equipment which I did. The salesperson told me it's a process. He made me try a 2,500 german pair that didn't do anything for me then a 300 pair called GRADO that gave me goosebumps. It's very subjective and the rabbit hole is deep. It's up to you whether you buy from the store that invested time in educating you or then going online and buying what you like for cheaper but I think once I'm decided on my first equipment, I'll be willing to pay the extra retail cost and buy it from the store that let me just sit there for hours and listen. Reviews are overrated. Just my 2 cents.

Newbie123Try the Sennheiser Momentum 3 for example. Excellent wireless headphones with great sound signature with more bass then HD650 etc... Those gave me goosebumps

Newbie123The headphones are limited by the amp/dac you use. I bought the Sennheiser, then a Grace SDAC, then the 789AAA, then a Topping D70, then the Focal Elex, then the Darkvoice, then started tube rolling. Each step made a difference. The 6XX can perform magic, but you need the right amp. For what its worth: a Topping D70 DAC to a THC 789AAA amp, to Focal Elex headphones with balanced cables, will make you literally cry listening to songs you thought you had heard before. Now I GET Abby Road. I only THOUGHT I had listened to it before. Throw the Darkvoice into the mix and you'll wonder what you have been listening to all these years, because you won't be able to call it music after hearing what it's supposed to sound like. There are moments with the Darkvoice that simple astonish. The right DAC/AMP/Headphones is a musically epiphany. A veritable Sonic awakening on the scale of Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

LeeFinleySorry, but you lost me when you spelled "Abbey Rd." wrong. And buying 18 different DAC/amps? I hope you could return some, or did you keep them all? Plato would tell us that only through philosophical reasoning can we understand these headphones, not just our eyes, ears or experience.

Newbie123Nothing wrong with not liking what people generally like, though I would advise to spend some time exclusively with the HD6XX for a few weeks if possible, and after that try listening back to your usual headphones. You'd be able to appreciate the differences better, though I'm just speaking from my personal experience. (At this point I know it's already too late since you already returned them, but something to keep in mind for future audio purchases). But if you still don't like it, then it's perfectly fine. Gordon Ramsay might cook the best steak, but if you serve it to a person who doesn't like steak, it's not gonna do much for them. Everyone's got different taste and preferences. FYI I sold my HD6XX too.

Newbie123So I was in the same boat when I first got my Hd6xx, I was really really disappointed. I DID NOT have a proper amp to drive the headphones. Once I got an amp (a week one mind you) it was a much better experience but I still had to basically blast it at full to get a decent experience. When I went back to my old headphones to see how they drive on the amp is when I started to notice the quality the HD6XX actually provide because OUT OF NO WHERE my old headphones that I thought sounded great for years all of a sudden sounded muffled/distorted and dirty. Once I started playing with DACs and Amps I truly realized what I had in my hands and what I had on my ears. Took me almost 2 months to appreciate them but I can't go back now.

LeeFinleyI started with Schiit stack with HE400i (basic audiophile sounds), Meze 99 (fun) and Sony WH1000-XM2 (travel). I upgraded to Sundara, 6XX, Grace DAC Bal, THX789AAA over the years and still use the other goodies. I have stopped upgrading my headphone setup, because I was working on my speaker setup in the living room and content with desktop music quality. I must say that I'm almost there with my headphones. I have access to an audio store that carries Grado, Focal, Senn, Audeze and I have an ITCH to upgrade to all 4! I am hesitant to buy tube amps as of now, since I think I enjoy less warm, but what is your most used sound setup and most wished upgrades? I feel like you are ahead of me on a similar journey and tastes. I appreciate your input.

Newbie123It's interesting that you like the momentum. What kind of music do you listen to? I listen to everything, so it makes sense for me to have a headphone for each occasion, with my wallet/wife willing. I plan on upgrading over time, since I am also fortunate enough to have a store near me.

lebikerboyI usually buy <$500 products online to try. If I don't like them, I give them away to family and friends on bdays or christmas. Only justification for having a budget to spend online. I wish I could try Focal Clear.....

J1aE_doN9I'm way behind you. I spent a total of 7 hours at the store listening to about 4 headsets. I listen to everything as well. More rap than anything else but that's mostly in the car (my favourite place to listen to music). I had a custom system installed on a tesla 3 and it's great. I like bass and the momentum free. They're good for many things including travelling. They are no Sony for noise isolation but it's good enough. I guess they sound "warm" to me. I still didn't give up on an 'audiophile" set up so when I have time mMly next project is to find a good pair of bookshelf (although I'm really enjoying my Edifier 200$) connected to my TV) + a pair of wired headphones with DAC. But I really need to be impressed to buy something around 1k. If there are no goosebumps listening to tracks I love it's a no go.

Newbie123Oh man, do yourself a favor and stay away from the sound voodoo! I'm stuck seeking out the demo sound session I heard from audio research amps and wilson audio speakers ($$$$$$$$$) few months back. Your ears are still naïve enough to keep your wallet safe xD! With all kidding aside, I believe it's always better to enjoy the music than chase the sound. The people at the audio shop laughed when I told them I consider $10k to be my end game budget to recreate what I'm looking for. Enjoy your music, bud! I'm enjoying my koss over-ears and schiit stack as we speak! :]]

Newbie123talk about overdramatic. 6xx is a solid pair. if you like the sony then you probably prefer "too-much bass" bc those headphones are made for generic ears that like a lot of bass and treble.

Ringing in PC38X's

I recently got this headset, and wow is it good. My only issue is when certain people talk on discord, I can hear a really high pitched ringing. I fiddled with a bunch of settings, computer audio and discord, and nothing seems to solve the issue. It is primarily if not all in my right ear only. Is there something wrong with my headset, or was that ringing always there I can just hear it cause the headset is THAT good? I haven't had any issues with any other application, though I have yet to test if I can hear the ringing on a different version of discord, say on my xbox instead of my pc. Only other issue I've had is occasional static, but I can't tell if it's from the headset or the show/game/etc.

Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?

Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Recommendation for my next headphone set? I have Koss 95x

Hey all, What would you recommend I get next and why? I have Koss ESP-95x electrostatic massdrop headphones. These are my first and only audiophile set. I love them. I think my only real requirements is $500 or less for the headphones and that they have a little more low end. I don’t need thump but these are really light on lows…but the experience is still awesome. Also any recommendations on an amp? I only have my electrostatic thingy. I am using the Topping D50 DAC. thx!!
