if you are looking for an enjoyable headphone. One that is pleasant and pleasing to listen to after a long day at work, just get a pair of these. I have had mine since the end of 2016. I was able to jump into the original drop of the HD6xx. I have bought several other headphones throughout this time and I always ended up with these.
the 6xx lacks quantity in bass, but it does not lack quality. it has enough for genres like Jazz, not enough for other genres though. I am currently powering my 6xx through the Massdrop Liquid Carbon and it just such a beautiful pairing. There is zero fatigue. the liquid carbon adds a bit of umph on the bass too.
these are great headphones for vocals. Male & female
After almost 3 years of buying and selling headphones, these are still sitting on my desk, because I have not found a better value than these anywhere
From the painless ordering process to making sure that the product arrived on time professionally packaged, along with an invoice to the actual product itself - the HD 6XX - Wow! I have been listening to music for over 40 years and have never heard my music like this before. Little nuances that were never heard before come out here. Not like hearing it for the first time, but like hearing a different mix of the same song. Very impressive Drop, please give yourselves a big hand for making these beautiful headphones even more available for all to enjoy!
Open backs project sound both towards your ears and out the sides of the earpieces.
This makes the sound feel as if they are coming from further away. Good for replicating the directions of where each vocals and instruments are coming from; like at a concert. Close backs sound as if the music is coming from the centre of your head; you get less "directional" experience but they feel more intimate.
Open backs leak sound so if you are riding on public transport, the people sitting next to you might look at you sideways wonder why you are playing music for everyone around you.
Most high end headphones are open back so don't worry about losing any sound quality from the leakage!
Found it to be well driven and a beautiful sound with a Jotunheim & Aries 2, well matched with a Dragonfly Cobalt and on high gain, a stack is a fine match for music, gaming and shows. Light & low profile design is an ergo pleasure.
like how these were $199 not even a week ago... I was waiting to get these with my paycheck yesterday and get to pay $40 more just for waiting... kinda lame
merlinxSales come and go… usually tied to a holiday (like president’s day) and gone in a flash.
Having gotten my HD 650 when it was $349 (and mine cost more than that, because it was bundled with the Apogee Groove DAC/amp), I can agree it stings a little to see someone else get a better deal… but I’ve had mine for 6 years and I know some people have had theirs for 20 years, sometimes trying other, more expensive headphones but coming back to the HD 650/6XX because they prefer it anyway. In the long term, the HD 6XX is a durable good, and the price difference won’t feel as much plus you don’t have to wait till Black Friday or something.
What’s does “product run live” mean under order status? I placed my order on Feb 19 and payed 2 day shipping and I haven’t received any update on the shipping or anything else!
I emailed them; and this was their reply: Taking a look at the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones product page, just below the details section, I can see that this particular run has an estimated shipping date of March 31st. Some of the items listed on Drop.com are structured runs with ship dates in the future. Once your order ships, you will receive an automated confirmation email with tracking. Please kindly note that we are unable to ship items that are still within production or not in our warehouse. All items on Drop.com have an "Estimated" shipping date within the details section of the product page. Our logistics team will send out email updates in the event of a delay, so please keep an eye on your inbox.
I watched it all last weekend, and then purchased the Schiit Stack and was going to buy these on Monday (20th), and it went up... waiting now for it to drop back to $199. :/ Didn't realize the price jumped around so much or I would of just bought them last Sunday..
gorgeous when combined with tubes! I've tried everything, including porta pros and focus clears, but I keep coming back to the 6XX.

Very nice sound quality for the price. Got this when it went onsale, and have been super happy with it. Sennheiser wired phones are becoming a thing of the past and this will stay for the test of time.

My order says “Reserved for Shipment,” how long does this usually take to ship? My shipment date says Feb 28, I ordered on the 30th of January. Will it really take this long just to ship??
(eta: typos)
Big news! They arrived yesterday...well they arrived Monday but even though I was waiting for them the letter carrier just left a slip in the mailbox without ringing the doorbell (noooo!) and so I had to wait one more day and pick them up down the street. What's one more day after waiting 2 1/2 months? Another fun thing was the $33 in duty plus another $10 service charge from DHL which seems kind of sleazy as there was no option for me to choose the shipping method or see what their charges would be. So all in I paid $330 Canadian. The actual HD650 phones are on sale right now for $599 which is $676.87 with tax, so the HD6xx are still a great deal. Just know that the $189 US price I originally paid quickly adds up with exchange, duty, service charges etc. Anyhow they sound great so far, really like them on first impression. But a painful ordering experience for sure.
Yes, that's exactly what I heard about HD 660S... the ultimate open-ear audiophile h/phones for mobile use. And not super expensive either, these were $230 on Amazon around Thanksgiving Day. HD 660S is almost 5yr old now and I think it is time for Drop to release its own version.
brainwaveOn my nicely portable Sony “New Walkman” NW-ZX300, if I use the HD 650 with my balanced 4.4mm cable, the mids sound sucked out. A cryin shame not to hear the beautiful mids of any HD 600 series headphone! But it actually has great synergy with the HD 660S, with more forward mids and a rich bass that I seem to hear in many Sony products.
