Anyone notice the price drop of 40 bucks and The DAO also! I want a thresher bad but 5 oz is holding me back so i grabbed a bronze DAO for a little over a 100 bucks. Awesome price breaks and hoping DROP will do a break on some other collabs also! Edit: looks like the pelagic version is 4.7oz watching dr frunkeys review so im in come Friday!

CdoyleNoticed and trying to get both before they go back up. I agree they should do this with all the collabs from time to time. But at 150 a thresher is a must buy!

CdoyleYes, did notice the drop in price This makes a good buy and incredible one - even with the added $20 for the modified versions of the Thresher, given the reviews, this is a high value offering ($180, with our state tax included). Not that I want to cancel my order, but can anyone tell me the cancellation policy at Drop - specifically, what is the grace period allowed in which to cancel the order without penalty? GimletEye

On products that Drop produces like this you will generally only have 2 hours to cancel once you place the order. Once the charge goes though I am not sure if you can cancel. At this point I would contact them to see if I could cancel before the product ships. They are pretty good about responding quickly IMO. In the end, if you are not satisfied with the knife after you receive it, they offer a return policy as long as you live in the US. This is how it works for the most part with Massdrop Studio products. When the drop is one that lasts for mulitple days or so (orders that massdrop fulfils but does not produce) you have a much larger grace period to cancel. Basically til the drop ends. Some can sell out and end almost instantly though. In this case you are charged right when it ends but you can cancel anytime before. I hope this helps. It has taken me months to get it down On another note, my thresher just arrived and it is everytbjng the reviews say it is.

Laxnerd213Thanks; very good of you to respond. Will stay with the order. I always suffer buyer’s remorse to one degree or another - the result of an inescapable inner voice one develops as the oldest of nine children (even after being away from home for 50 yrs!). Thanks again.

If you end up disappointed with this knife I'd be very surprised. I dont know if you own any of the other massdrop collabs that WE Knife produces but I have been impressed with everyone that I own. I started with the Crux, added the Buc before the price increase (it's still worth it at 140), and then the Gent Select with CF. But this is now my favorite of the collabs made by WE. Of all my massdrop knives this and the Mordax are my two favorites. But this at 150 is a much better deal. I would have been happy at 190 and had planned to spend that when I had it. When the price dropped i had to grab one. I pay 5 for the faster fedex shipping which is almost priority mail fast. I think it's worth it since I have no patience. Now I'm working the misses for permission to grab the Dao before it goes back to 140. I think I have til tomorrow. It's basically a usable Buc (which is a great collectors knife and finger chopper). But just wait til you feel the action on the thresher. If you've never felt a WE knife open in your hand your in for a special surpise. And this one does it all without the flipper tab. The detent is perfect. I also own alot of WE knives not produced for massdrop and they are incredible as well. The massdrop ones are definitely a bit more affordable than my others. You get about as much as you can for your money. Please let me know what you think when you get it!

Laxnerd213Thank you once again for your continued willingness to share your considerable experience. I will certainly provide you my impressions of the new Gavco acquisition. the Dao is unique in look and feel. I purchased the version which has a circuit board, 3-D appearance (in green and bronze) which is attractive, and unique. It has less feeling of heft than many knives it’s size - ideal fo EDC. It also must be held with fingers off the locking part of the frame in order to flip it open. The detent is substantial. Thanks again. GimletEye

Laxnerd213 I received my DAO the other day and for the hundred dollar price I'm happy with it however for 140 I probably wouldn't pick it up personally. as you read the reviews I have the same complaints of the flipper tab is kind of small, although I can deploy it fairly consistently, but I mostly finger flick the knife open although i cant flick it out with my thumb as the opening aperture is not big enough and the other compliant is the handle is rather narrow but those are my only two gripes really. I also think the finger choil is a little too large and sacrifices some cutting edge but that's minor. I can get four fingers on the knife and the action is super smooth and probably one of the most fall shutty actions out the box ive recieved ever and I have owned well over 200 folders . I picked up the original bronze stonewash version with the blue Backspacer and clip and the finish is nice as you would expect from WE knives. It does ride a little high in the pocket but overall for the discounted drop price I'm happy with it. At 140 I'd probably pass and pick up something else though but that is probably personal taste as well playing a factor.

CdoyleI much prefer the larger (more rounded out at least) choil found in the Dao and Mordax than the odd shaped one on the Crux or smaller ones that barely fit my fingers. I have to do alot of detailed cuts for my job and so most of the time I'm using the knife, in using the choil. I have absolutely no problem with a small flipper tab if its consistent. Alot of people put way too much pressure on the lock bar when holding the knife for a monster flick. All you have to do is loosen your grip and barely push the tab in towards the knife rather than flick it. My ZT 0470 has an even smaller but similar tab to the Dao and works just as well. With the Buc and Dao you can very easily flick with your middle finger as this grip puts no pressure on the lock bar whole holding it. This is how I prefer to eploy the Buc. The thumb flick is possible but much harder like you said. With my middle finger I dont even push on the hole but the knife itself and the loose grip easily breaks the detent. I feel a great deal of people dont understand the difference between a flick of the finger down and push of the finger into the knife. The latter works much better for small flippers such as the Dao. I'm beginning to even prefer small front flippers (like the smok). Basically I'm sick of large unnecessary flippers (bird heads like some say) getting stuck in my pockets, and scratching my other stuff down in there. I want my knife as slim as possible going down into my pockets. So I believe in user knife like the Dao the less space it takes up in the pocket the better. So while I get the point in the those reviews they have not been problems for me. I even have smaller hands and prefer the larger and rounded choil. I don't think anyone does choils better than Andrew Demko in his designs. Spyderco does them very well for the most part, but demko has a knack for making them small but very effective. Like on the AD-15. For the money (140 dollars full price) what competing knives do you think are better deals than Dao? I can really only think of Kizer, and similar branded knives found at a discount price at the moment. I have never paid more the 125 for a kizer but I have found them at great deals. At least for similar builds with similar materials what out there is better? I don't ask because I think these are the best deals but more bc there may be something out there I dont know about.

Laxnerd213I do like the DAO and have been carrying it since it arrived. It is a good knife overall and the negatives are small critiques/nitpicking for the most part. i read the reviews here prior to purchasing and still joined bc they are small nuances which every knife has in some form imo. There is one other gripe i didnt mention which is a bigger deal and that is lockface geometry. While my example locks up relatively tight i can push the lockbar over a decent amount. Normally WE is good about those kind of details so maybe it just needs to break in hopefully or its just my sample but thats something i would look down on at $140. At $100 i can live with it. As far as the small flipper i can use it consistently with no problem. Every knife has its quirks and can require altering ones grip or deployment methods to accommodate which is fine and while i dont care for huge flipper tabs ( think older Kizers) i would prefer it a little bigger on the DAO but it isnt a problem for me nor is the lockbar as i anchor on the pocket clip anyway. The nArrow handle does make it more sensitive though. I dont carry anything else in my knife pocket so a "pocket pecker" is not a concern to me either. There are lots of great knives on the market and for the full price of 140 bucks they are just other knives i would buy first. i was actually only looking at the DAO bc it was on sale so figured i would try it out since i have been happy w the other drop collabs ive acquired which are high quality and good values in general. I own alot of knives acquired over the years so i have my preferences and know what I prefer and dont as do you. These are merely my opinions though so take them as you will. I think for 100 bucks the DAO is a great value and i even recommended it in my review I left under that section at the discounted pricing. As far as what else is out there, too many to call out, but I would recommend you the keen if you dont have one yet as its near perfection to me. I own 3 of them and its one of my favorite production folders. Thin BTE, beautiful, perfect EDC size and weight, amazing smooth action, great blade shape, easy to disengage lockbar, fidget friendly and highly funtional also. It is a little more than the DAO at full price but worth it and is executed very well with no quirks at all to nitpick really. Slightly handle heavy If i wanna get real picky but a gorgeous, simplistic design, and a fantastic folder for the money.

Laxnerd213 I forget to mention I do like the DAO's slim and lightweight package also. It's not the perfect knife but what is really? Not even my sebenza is perfect as i can always find something id change on any folder i get really. I do like the DAO but i don't love it, however at 100 bucks its a very strong value for sure with premium materials and the right companies designing and manufacturing it. oh hey if you prefer minimalist flippers I would also recommend trying some more front flippers like the boos smoke you mentioned. I love em personally and have a few models. Very fun to use! The real steel metamorph exclusive in g10 from indiana knives is a pretty good and affordable option. I have a bestech shinkansen due for delivery tomorrow also which i have high hopes for as i have always liked my Bestechs with their very smooth action. Now That gavko thresher looks pretty amazing and is also on sale which i was considering too but i just picked up a CKF Makosha which depleted my knife fund for this month. Hopefully the sale will continue a couple more weeks though so i can grab an aqua pelagic version and hoping Drop will discount some other collabs also! Great way to get people reinterested in models that have been out a while.

CdoyleThe lavender anodized Keen with the holes in the frame is model I would really like to get. It was already high on my list but now that I read your description of it I think im gonna take the plunge. I dont know if massdrop will eventually do a discount on the keen (I doubt it since it sells well regardless). It will actually be my first Laconico. And I'd certainly like to get one of the Terzuolas too. I just saw that the price has been reduced on them (definitely upset the CF model is sold out though). But if I'm gonna go for another g10 liner lock priced above $100 I would actually prefer the Giantmouse Clyde. They are right up my alley and I am a huge fan of Elmax steel. It might even be my favorite Stainless Steel to put to harder use (well other than LC200N) When heat treated right, elmax can be easier to sharpen and tougher than M390 (in my experience at least). There's a small sacrifice in edge retention but I think its worth it for the previously mentioned reasons. Unfortunately it's becoming very hard to find in a brand new knife. I got a FOX Tur few months ago and absolutely love carrying.snd using it. The first one I received I returned due to vertical play (it appeared to have had the back of the blade altered to decrease Linerlock). The second I received is amazing. Now, I love my Italian made knives more than most. They tend to have a much tighter hold on the blade when closing. They will never fall shut like a WE Knife but you can disengage the lock bar with your thumb (while the blade stays in place), move it out of the way, and then flick the knife shut with my wrist. This type of action seems to be consistent with other Italian knives I have (particularly my Teflon washered Lionsteel knives which include the Lil Lionspy collab with spyderco). I love this but I completely understand why people prefer ceramic bearings that allow a blade to simply fall shut. Anyways, what I really like about the TUR is the fact it combines a smaller blade with a full size handle. I wish more knives were made like this. I tend to use the smaller knife I regularly carry over the larger knife. Even at work as an electrician I dont need anything more than 3 inches. Most of my coworkers get away with a razor blades no longer than an inch. But at this point I've gone way off topic. I'll definitely look into some of the knives you mentioned. You have good taste and i appreciate the recommendations.
