I went to REI to see the Crown2 60 in person
Pros ---- Seems well made The materials seem durable Lots of compression straps! I didn't load it up, I was short on time. However, the waist belt and shoulder straps felt good I was able to reach side pockets. There are holes in the side pocket so that you run the compression straps against the pack body but leave the pocket loose to access your water bottle. The frame sheet was firm and sturdy The back was sectional padding with mesh over the frame sheet. You shouldn't feel the frame sheet and the sectional padding and mesh should allow for ventilation. This pack will hold a LOT of stuff. You'll need to resist bring the kitchen sink with you! I liked the mesh back pocket. It will be great for damp or wet gear. I liked the large hip belt pockets. You're getting the 2018 version. The X60 has some nice upgrades over the Crown2. I'll discuss those below. The Massdrop price is a GREAT value! I really want the Zpacks Arc Haul Zip but with accessories to match these feature it would be $420.

Cons ---- Waterproofing is a coating on the inside of the fabric. It will wear with use and lose waterproofing/resistance I didn't look to see if the seams were seamed (waterproofed). I believe they were taped with fabric for durability. Being very nitpicky, some of the bar tack stitching was a little uneven. This is an asethic issue more than a durability issue. Removing the hip belt was a little bit of work. You have to put a hand in each side of the tunnel and work the velcro loose. The hip belt pockets were situated toward the rear. Which will make them a little harder to reach. Lots of compression straps. More weight and more straps to snag branches. The shoulder straps are fixed at the top of the pack. There's no adjustment to help them fit your shoulders better. The biggest Con. The delivery date is June 2018. I've seen these dates slip. I have other pack(s) I can use but if you're planning a trip around this delivery date have a backup plan.

X60 upgrades These are described in the 1st comment The top lid (brain) that converts into a lumbar day pack is BRILLIANT! If you make a base camp and day hike or fish it will be very useful! I worry a little that it could be floppy if not full and that the buckles could rub on your back. You could make a couple of fleece tubes to pad them. I think the organization pockets in the top lid will be handy. Especially as a lumbar day pack. The more angled side pocket will probably hold less and may not hold water bottles as secure. I use Smartwater bottles because they fit on Sawyer filters. I don't know if they will work. They are tall and skinny. The bungie cord straps for water bottles will be nice. As long as your bottle fits snuggly. Again I don't know if Smartwater bottles will work. I like the gray color for this version.
I'm in for one!
