Product Description
This Refurbished Sale is for B-stock Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Headphones. For more information, please refer to the Refurbished Details & Guidelines below.
These are units that were produced as part of the original launch back in late-2017 which shipped to Drop in mid-2018 (as part of the launch). These are NOT pre-production sample units and have the same tuning as the release.
RelinquishDreadIt’s most likely “production” tuning because of the product description, but I’m just checking. I have a pre-production tuned HD 58X Jubilee myself, and it’s not bad, but I think most people will be expecting and preferring the heavier bass of the production model.
Still, it’s kind of cool to have a pre-production model, just as it’s cool that some of these refurbs might be low serial # units.
EvshrugI actually don't really mind if it was the pre-production tuning. I'm more worried about whether or not these were reconditioned at the very least, the description is vague at best.
Even the Focal Refurbs say they would have mild blemishes among other things.
RelinquishDreadHmm. While I’m sure an abusive previous owner could cause scratches, the HD 600 series (including the HD 58X Jubilee) enclosure is one of the most easily repaired headphones I know of. I think each piece can be replaced by hand, and there’s a US repair facility in Kentucky that reserves some replacement parts for mail in service. There’s no reason for Drop to sell these if they weren’t functionally perfect.
Most B-stock and refurbs are from people that return within 30 days, because they just wanted to demo the sound. Those usually look like new. Sometimes people return orders without even trying them.
”Refurbishment” wouldn’t turn me off at all.
EvshrugFrom the description alone, this isn't even B-stock. It seems these are unsold A-stock from the factory back at Ireland that they wanna get rid of before they moved the Romanian factory for production.
I cannot say these are worth it if it isn't covered by warranty, since it's a $5 difference but they are at the very least in stock and shipping right now.
MobagemanYeah, and some people really want the Ireland assembled editions, even though the drivers are still made in Ireland for the new HD 58X Jubilee assembled in Romania ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Is this worth saving 30$? As someone who isn't the most financially enabled as a teen, I budget and save as much as possible, but I'm not sure if audio should be cheaped out on.
Drop is just a design makeover - the skin of the product may be different but the hardware inside is exactly the same. In this case, what you would be getting is a basically a refurbished/factory sample HD600 from Sennheiser. Any problems you would have would be with the producer of the original product. Meaning, if you don't like the sound, you don't like Sennheiser. They also got the extended warranty for this version (with extra cost at purchase of course). Basically what I am just explaining is that buying from Drop is very similar to buy the same product anywhere else. The cheaper price tag mostly is due to the different branding and skin material. (For example, the HD650 is hugely popular, but not many people know about the HD6xx - hard to find the first one for cheap). If you don't like refurbished items you should choose a new version then. Cheers.
