Now, nearly two years on; it sits unused
Don't get me wrong; it's a quality blade and the action is still smooth as silk but there hangs over it a cloud of frustration and regret. MassDROP failed miserably in the QC department and tried to appease a great number of very unhappy buyers after the fact with offers to buy the knife back and a credit to the site store. Too late, and not enough in this buyer's opinion... This deal soured me in such a way that it completely turned me off buying anything from DROP going forward. It seems like such a simple oversight of hardware choice... but that choice on finish and material is a glaring scar to those that committed money and A LOT of time waiting on the finished product... only to find out after the fact that it would be changed during production to a less desirable finish. In something as small, intricate, and heavily used as an EDC pocketknife... DETAILS MATTER. When you look at it and/or use it every day; those details convey a message that should reflect your values and characteristics. MassDROP obviously didn't respect those that committed money and time to what was promoted as a premium product from a legendary name in the industry.

ADVcyclistCould you give more details about the quality and finish issues you're talking about? It would be really useful to others who might consider buying this knife. Also, you seem to say MD acknowledged those defects, so I'm curious if they might still be present in that drop.

mdeousFunctionally, it did not change. Aesthetically though; Massdropped the ball by making running production changes to the hardware, removing Bob's name and replacing it with their logo, and making the first round of buyers wait for MONTHS on a final product that was vastly different than initially promised. The original prototype used for the pre-sale had bright brass hardware, clip, and retaining screws. It shone and contrasted the muted colors of the G10 scales beautifully; then they changed the hardware to that stonewashed crap you see on the current knife... still functional, but wholly unsatisfying to a large group of buyers that was genuinely looking forward to watching the bright brass accumulate a natural patina. Swapping out Terzuola's name for the MD logo was just bad form in every way and left a bad taste in everyone's mouth about the last minute branding. It's a solid, well-balanced, and high-functioning knife... just with a lingering shadow of bad decisions on the part of Massdrop hanging over it.
