Hmm, I'll just coat them with nail polish when I get them and see if that helps to prevent them from wearing out. I imagine that the laser etching comes after the electroplating, which weakens the electroplating and makes them more likely to oxidize at those sites.

anroActually the laser etching lasts quite surprisingly well. Significantly better than the plating. It'll still be there when the plating is gone.
