I was able to get through successfully from public wifi. The only hiccup was that it hung after entering my shipping info, and then gave me an error. Regardless, I got an email at 1:02 informing me I'd gotten in.
And all in all, great handling of the load! The site slowed down of course, but that's to be expected. It remained responsive, and I didn't experience too much difficulty on other parts of the site, either. I'm impressed, especially since you're not designed for this!
