Went backpacking a few weeks ago I brought an MSR pump (like this one) and my brother brought a Katadyn BeFree Water Filtration System. The Katadyn was faster, lighter, cheaper and way easier. I suspect my MSR will last longer than the Katadyn, no data on that, but if the Katadyn lasts as long as the pump I would go with a Katadyn. YMMV.

wintermuttThanks. I was wondering about the comparison. 85 strokes per liter sounds crazy after using a Katadyn, and given that they have the same filtration rating I'll probably go with a Hiker Pro.

JimboJonesKatadyn BeFree is not a pump, it is a bag of water you squeeze through a filter. I have never used a Katadyn pump.
