Ugyen Wood has lasted since January 2017 with daily use. No bowing at this time and has been decent like my Filco and Glorious brand wood wrist rests. Although in the same vein, I found the Royal Glam bamboo one I received from mass drop at a later date to have wrapped in approximately 12 months and would give 1 star which im going to do right now.
I was a bit skeptical of the ergonomics of a wooden rest, but I really like it. You're not resting on it most of the time and when you do it's not at all uncomfortable, and it looks great. Has a bit less grain than the photos, but I'm actually pleased with that. Plus, it's wood, it will vary. The finish on mine is even and has a nice look, polished but not overpowering. It does not just look like a hunk of 2x4. Admittedly it doesn't sit quite flush with my Keychron K2 horizontally or vertically since I had to go either a bit too big or a bit small, but that doesn't affect its use. I do find especially since the Keychron is quite tall, the rest helps a lot with comfort while using it, in addition to the solid aesthetics. It feels like something I can use for a long time. There are some more expensive wood rest options, but especially if you want to be sure you'll like it, this is a great choice and a good price.
Build quality is great, smooth wood. What I don't expect are the texture and color., I'm expecting a more natural textured look as in the product picture but what I got is a very flat almost too clean for a wood wrist rest, might as well paint it solid or buy an acrylic wrist rest, also totally disappointed by the uygen wood because it's almost Black! Totally different than the picture!!
Disappointing. Staining color is very different from pictures.
I bought two wrists rests, one in Ash and another un Ugyen Wood staining. The wood itself is hard and well cut, but the colors and textures were very different and much shinier than in the pictures. The rests, both of them, looked cheap and were very far from the aesthetics in the pictures, not only for the natural wood pattern but also because the stain used was nearly solid, so the product did not feel like wood at all.
After contacting DROP with information and detailed pictures, the company was not helpful at all and were not interested in the product quality. Buy from this website very carefully as the aftersale support is inexistant.
Staining of wood was inconsistent with online pictures. Drop customer service is unwilling to facilitate a return of the product. I would use extreme caution purchasing from this company — unlike most online retailers of goods, their return policies are absurdly restrictive and their website poorly describes their policies. Very disappointing experience with a company that I’d expect would be customer friendly given their niche of products that are intended to be customizable and perfect for “you”.
The wrist rest seems like decent quality when I first got it, although the colour is significantly darker than the pictures make it seem. The issue that I have is that it warped significantly within a month of when I got it and now wobbles a ton.
DannyifI came across this review on Amazon:
'Looks nice and the wood is smooth and comfortable. However, it absolutely stinks of creosote. Creosote has been banned in the UK (and probably Europe) as it is a carcinogen, i.e. if you use this rest for a long time then you might develop skin cancer on your wrists. If you have a small child or animal and they get this in their mouth it could be really dangerous.'
If true it's basically been treated with highly toxic coal tar derivatives.
