v47rYou can go wrong with black. It's one of the least versatile colors in the world of fashion. Black belt should only be worn with black shoes, which are very difficult to wear outside of streetwear and formal attire.
Most of the time a black belt is just going to make you look like an out of touch dad.
Brown belt is the most popular because brown shoes are as ubiquitous as it gets.

WoogityYou sound like a lot of fun at parties.
I don't wear any brown shoes or clothes and I certainly don't care to match my belt to every other color I do wear. I also don't tuck in my shirts so you usually can't see my belt anyway.
Maybe some people think I look like a dad (which I'm actually not), but at least I'm fun at parties.

ultraconsumerHe asked a question. The answer assumes that you care about fashion. Some people don't, and that's fine.

WoogityHahahahaha.. I have to disagree, you really can't go wrong with black. I'm not a fancy schmancy kinda guy though... so maybe i am "out of touch". Oh well, i'll leave the fashion up to the ladies.

v47rYou are wrong. Like I said, that's fine to not care about how other people perceive the way you dress, but black has been given this status as a versatile color by people who have no idea how to dress. It's almost a myth with how widespread it is. The truth is, black is one of the least versatile, hardest colors to wear. It's formal, and looks strange with almost any other color. Charcoal, navy, brown, grey - these are versatile colors.
Funny that you think being "fancy schmancy" makes a black belt more suitable for you.
"Oh well, i'll leave the fashion up to the ladies."
lol traditional gender norms.

Alright, well you can see it like that all you want, but that's just not how it works. This is some fashion 101 stuff. If you have to ask why brown belts are more popular, you're definitely not ready to start intentionally and successfully start breaking "fashion rules".
