From the pictures, Is one speaker (L/R) front-ported and the other speaker rear-ported?

They are rear ported. The things that look like “ports” on the master speaker (right) are dials for volume and input selection.

From the “features” section of the product description on the Peachtree site: “Front panel volume control and input selection”.

To make sure I understand correctly, the only way to connect the other speaker is through the output shown on the speaker with inputs?

The right speaker has all of the electronics and all of the inputs (line, optical, USB, Bluetooth). There is a standard 2-wire speaker cable that runs from the right speaker to the left speaker to drive the left speaker. The left speaker is a passive speaker.
