Why does Porsche seem to be the ONLY automaker (other than the frankly obscenely priced bentley and bugatti ones) who actually commissions really nice, unique designs for their watches, pens, etc? Everything else is a cheap piece of shit $80 cross with a ferrari logo on it, but porsche throws down stuff like this. I don't even LIKE porsche.

HoneybadgersPorsche Design is not affiliated with the car company with the same name outside of being started by the grandson of the car company founder in the 70s. A few years back, it became a joint venture with the car company but still independent.

HoneybadgersI'm not a huge fan of Porsche (if someone feels like gifting me one I won't complain as long as I don't have to pay taxes on it...) but compared to some of the others you mention, the layout and the design are just always cleaner. That said, I'm not buying this unless I'm a "Porsche guy" - might as well find something VERY specific via a microbrand or other higher-end brand that is more personalized

Alan_GThe mercedes gift shop would counter argue that point. You don't get to sell 99.999% trash and get a pass because you partnered with one obscenely expensive collab :P

Alan_Gare you saying you prefer the AMG designs? IWC is wonderful but I don't think of it being in the same category as the "motorsport design" ones.. I think of IWC and I think either aviation or titanium, and I def don't think "wait... is this a watch company first?" because it definitely is

Alan_GBruh those watches are FORTY GRAND. That does not count. They don't follow a common design language or distill the essence of the thing they're trying to copy (though arguing that the F1 watch costs 40k as a representation of the hilariously, catastrophically overpriced nature of that motorsport is getting pretty goddamn meta), they're just super expensive watches. Porsche design (again, speaking as not a porsche fan) tends to follow very specific design language and attempts to really distill the essence of the cars into a pen or watch. And they keep the price in the range of something a real human could afford.

HoneybadgersI would add that having that amount of money doesn't necessarily buy taste, cos that Lewis Hamilton BP perpetual calendar is utterly horrific
