Always liked the idea of these things; just never was willing to risk the loss of half of my keys!

RayFRay, I never put more than one key on this contraption, and it's never a key that had not been duplicated. I with you on the lack of trust issue.

RayFIn all the years we've been selling these I have not received a single email about an accidental release...they are specifically engineered to not come apart under normal conditions ;)

RayFI have a similar product (except it only requires 4 pounds of force to release), and I attached a tiny flashlight and retracting knife to it. I’ve had it for a year or two, never had it accidentally detach. I only have my keys on the counter, in my pocket, in my car ignition, and in my hand. If I carried my keys outside my pocket on... a chain or something, I would be more worried about snagging on something, and probably upgrade to this 10 lb pull just for security.

EvshrugRecently bought a car with one of those clunky Proximity Keys; too big to carry comfortably with other keys, too scary to think about loosing! Best I can do now is hook everything to carabiners and belt-loops and hope for the best...

RayFI just finished paying off my car! But my insurance switched from subsidized to private, soooo the price difference is about the same as my car payment (slightly more). Life!! What kind of car do you have now? My key has a short loop, so I connected a bigger key ring to that. Most everything connects to that bigger ring, but it’s still compact enough to fit in my pants’ pocket and not bang around too much when it hangs from the ignition. Btw, I like having the green knife and flashlight on the same detachable section... it’s the only part I might like separate, but having those two connected to each other extends the grip length on each, because otherwise they’re each really small.

Actually, looking at this picture, it might be more optimal to swap the small and medium rings on the brass release. The biggest ring is too thick to fit inside the brass release’s hole, but the medium ring might allow the knife and light to fold on each other better. No disrespect to Prometheus for showing another product... I have and love one of their lights, and I just thought it would be useful to compare the experience I’ve had with this 4 lbs pull weight detachable keychain piece vs Prometheus’ 10 lbs pull weight option here.

EvshrugI like paid-off cars too; unfortunately the one I'd, been driving for a number of years, was stolen two weeks ago. I need something, so I replaced it with a BMW 535i, which I admit is better looking and more fun to drive than the one I lost, but it did come with payments, more expensive insurance, and that big key fob.

As for keys, and keychains--I hate them. In my twenties I managed a number of stores and each one came with a ten-pound wad of keys on a ring that would put a Jailer to shame. No one knew what half of them were for, but everyone was afraid to throw any of them away. Because of that memory, for a long time I refused to carry anything more than a house key, a car key, and occasionally a mailbox key--anything more gave me flashbacks. These days I do carry a few more keys than I like, but no accessories (ie: flashlights, tools, bottle openers, whistles, or tactical-what-nots). I'll get use to the new car key (I suppose) but I'm still a "less is more" guy at heart.

RayFSorry about your loss... theft can feel like a heartbreak. A flashlight and the tiny knife are the only things I really would need to pull separate from my whole keychain. I open mail packages a few times a week, and in my last job I used a knife to open boxes at least 20 times a day, plus I learned the value of illumination and having even a small light with me. Made a habit, I suppose, but I still never got to the point where I carried pounds of keys that I never used!
