QuigglepuffThese stone are meant for quicker work on a knife. So the grits will be lower. Also they are a Aluminum Oxide synthetic stone. Our natural stone have a much higher grit and are great for polishing your edge out.
Mcurty10Thank you for the reply. Would getting the 8 inch triad plus a 1000-1500 stone cover all sharpening needs from a pocket knife to an 8 inch chef's knife?
thepickledgentIt would be great for a chef's knife, but if you're using your pocket knife really really frequently, it might be overkill. I have a black hone that I got for my straight razor and it's great for that use, but for something like my pocket knives that get beat to hell day in, day out, I'd rather just use my lower grit stuff to maintain the edge. YMMV; you may want that super polished edge, but my pocket blades are more or less disposable at this point. For reference, the most expensive pocket knife I carry on a day-to-day basis is a Kershaw/Emerson that I got on Massdrop for about $20. I have a Spyderco that I'll spend some time on, but because of my clumsiness and my INCREDIBLE ability to lose things from my pockets, I don't carry it around with me.
