I'm really not sure what "recycled leather" is. Anybody educate me?
It looks like they've made a synthetic product out of leather scraps that are cut up and then formed into this product. Yes?

floydfloydFrom the manufacturer's website:
"The material used in these items is created by re-purposing remnants of fine Italian leather from the artisans work shop, shredding them, then mixing them with natural rubber and pressing them into sheets. The new material averages 80% genuine Italian leather and is then coated for protection and coloring."

floydfloydMy understanding is this is a fancy, eco-era-appropriate name for bonded leather with slightly higher non-leather content.
floydfloydFurthermore, it's recycled genuine leather. Regular genuine leather is already the lowest in terms of leather quality; itself made of what's left. Maybe that's fine as a blotter since you will likely get ink on it but then maybe it should be offered at a lower price.

keybersRecycled leather is a composite of shredded leather scraps and residues collected from tanneries and other leather product manufacturers. The shreds are treated with resin, glued together and then shaped into, say, part of a wallet or seat cover. Some of the finished recycled leather products will have the look and feel of new, non-recycled leather depending on the finish that is given to the surface. Recycled leather can also be stamped with the same result that you have on genuine leather.

floydfloydRecycled leather is widely used in the the upholstery industry and is created by re-purposing remnants of fine leather from the artisans workshop, shredding them, then mixing them with natural rubber and pressing them into sheets. The new material averages usually 80% genuine leather and is then coated for protection and coloring. To know more about this material I found a website that will explain more about it: https://naturalupholstery.com/2012/09/what-is-recycled-leather/
