I like this iron. I bought the Sainsmart version on Amazon and had to replace the power supply with one like in the Seeed kit because the firmware ramps up the heat too fast. You shouldn't have that problem with the Seeed power supply.
The Seeed, Sainsmart and TS-100 versions seem to be the same iron with different firmware and accessories. The firmware is open source and you can compile and upload your own to the iron. If someone wanted to send me the Seeed version I'd be happy to do a comparison!
You can get the bare iron cheaper and faster but this is a good package for a beginner. I think most pros might choose a soldering station instead of an iron. Personally I prefer irons for their simplicity and portability.
