Wish I had the cash... Does anyone know of a reliable iron under $60? Nothing serious, just basic projects. Recabling headphones, making a USB powered PC case fan. Simple low powered stuff.

NeenerManI've been using this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014KBIB3M/. I'm eventually going to get the hakko, but this has been a cheap and reliable alternative.

NeenerManI've been through several irons and soldering stations. These pencil style irons are okay if you need to solder 2 wires together, but they often run too hot and you will damage pcb or delicate components. If you are on a strict budget there are some Chinese Hakko clones that can be had for about 30 dollars. These will often function well until they don't. They sometimes crap out. If you are going to solder regularly it's best to spend 100 dollars on proper Weller or Hakko temp controlled station.
