How is this wound up? Can you not use the screw at the side or does it have to go on special apparatus?

loobywYou can't manually wind it, it is wound automatically by the movement of your wrist only.

eldoofoI cannot use this because since I sleep about 10 hours a day because of illness, I have to give my self winders three winds every morning. Keep this in mind when you get old and inactive.

eldoofoyou can manual wind it by turning the crown. All automatic watch can manual wind.

CardamomNope. Most (if not all) of the Seiko 5 movements can't be handwound. You can shake it if you want but turning the crown won't wind it.

eldoofoohh my mistake. I didn't even realize that when I checked out seiko 5s a long time ago. Glad I something else back then :P

djringjrSure you can... just get an "automatic watch wider box" to store it in at night. get a multiple watch box and store all of your automatic watches in it. It will keep them wound up.

djringjrI have this movement in the green band version, I only wear it once a week. That said I have 4 automatic watches and store them all in a winding box. I'd suggest buying a winding box if you have enough automatics. Never once thought about manually winding them.
