etalThe unit consumes 35 watts when not delivering any power to the load most likely. It also consumes 35W when delivering 80Watts to the load. They aren't talking about input power to the unit just the amount of power the unit consumes that is not delivered to the load. In other words wasted power. So 35W + 80W + 80W would be 195 Watts into the unit when delivering full power to the loads. Or 35W when delivering no power to the loads.
etalIt looks like it has a 24VDC power supply. The amplifier being class D is also probably bridged. That gives 24V across the load in either direction with no losses which is not likely. 24VDC in either direction is a possible 48Vpp across a Xohm load. Let's assume they are talking about VRMS^2/Load. 24V*2 (48Vpp) can deliver 48/2/SQRT(2) VRMS to a load if it is a sine wave. (A 48Vpp sine wave is about 17VRMS (sine wave). VRMS^2/load = Average power. 17*17/80 is load. I assume they meant 80W Average Power since VRMS^2/Load is Average Power and Not RMS power as most companies call it. That works out to be 3.6ohms. Probably 4ohms.
markallieSave yourself the energy of explaining…going by all the op’s recent comments it’s clear they have zero idea as to what these and similar audio items purpose of being actually are.
markallieYou are right the specs state 80W into 4Ohm load and 40W into 8Ohm.
Digging deeper into power consumption I was able to verify that the power supply is actually 6.75A at 24VDC so thats actually around 160W, a bit optimistic to assume almost zero loss (and totally impossible if we assume the 80W stated in rms) but at least its in the ballpark.
Apparently the 35W number quoted in the specs is the estimated power consumption during normal use.
Three questions. First what is the power output into an 8 ohm speaker? My guess is that it much less than the quoted 4 ohms in the spec sheet. Second, is there subwoofer output. Ok another, what functions does the single knob adjust and are there tone controls? I think the product description is very incomplete.
There are bass and treble controls. The rotary dial along with the single push button beside the display lets you control which input, bluetooth setting, tone controls, direct mode, sdb mode. It takes a little use to learn how to adjust but not too difficult. I've had this unit about 3 years. Started out using in garage workshop to power some small speakers then moved it to kitchen duty after purchasing a higher grade smsl dac and amp setup (da-9, su-9) for garage. They are all linked to my Bluesound Node streamer. At $95 I think this amp is a bargain. I'll have to look up the specs regarding power output later. It gets louder than I was expecting with my Dali Spektor 2 speakers (6 ohm). There is no subwoofer out.
