I am planning on doing an Aluminum case next week and I do want to let everyone know this to help prevent a bit of buyer's remorse.
We were experimenting with having TEX make us some plastic cases, and they came up with these, and it basically looks like a frosted beer glass. I'd never seen anyone make a case like this, and I figured the community would appreciate being the first to play around with these.
AndrewLekashmanIf you browse through the major keyboard forums, you will find that people WANT the aluminum case. There was a group buy on GH with 60% aluminum case, probably not anodized or machine CNC'd, goes for $60. A piece of plastic case like this goes for $60 is not reasonable.
Since it is the first time TEX makes this type of case, most likely there be issues in the first batch. So your strategy of having MD members paying $60 to be your experimental subject is not really customer friendly.
And that "frosted beer glass"-look design is just outdated.
I hope the aluminum case you put up next week is from TEX and the price (with shipping) has to be lower than other online vendors to compensate for the slow shipping time to worth the money.
bassPexon's aluminum case group buy (which I BELIEVE, but am not 100% sure about, is also from TEX) is $60 (not including Paypal fees and shipping, but still competitively priced compared to this).
minhoIf PEXON's case is indeed from TEX, I would totally jump at it. But knowing Lian Li's (the one makes TEX case) quality and price on its own PC cases, I doubt PEXON's case is from TEX. Even the group buy ran by Justin himself on GH was still $20 more than MK's price.
bassMost of the cost in making this is entirely in the cost of CNC operation. A block of acrylic and a block of aluminum are not significantly different in terms of cost, so when I list the aluminum version the price will be more or less similar.
This is definitely not cheap plastic, it's a considerably nicer product than the stock case for a Poker 2.
AndrewLekashmanWill these aluminum cases be the same as the Tex ones for sale at mechanicalkeyboards? If so I have been dying to get my hands on a red one.
