I presume this fits a Lam Al-star? I'd get it but I don't see myself writing enough to use this.

lastzeroI don't think it does, I think that it only fits pens with a circular grip

lastzeroIt's probably on the risky side because of the grip and body's shape.. looking at the video, slimer pens go in way beyond the grip section, that means the opening is quite wide so the body probably has to be cylindrical to have a snug fit and prevent leaking.. need to be confirmed.

lastzeroHi @lastzero,
I tested out a LAMY Vista fountain pen, and it worked fine with no leaking that I could detect. The top of the triangular grip does go into the inkwell further than the Pelikan we shot photos with, so there's a little more ink residue to clean off the grip after filling.
For anyone wondering, the inside seal is tapered, and made of a cushy rubber, so it seems to mold well to most standard range grip sizes. It does not work from slimmer pens - the thinnest ones I had on hand to test were the Ohto Poche (8.4 mm diameter grip) and the Diplomat Traveler (9.2 mm grip), and these go straight in with no resistance and no seal.
So, tldr; This inkwell works well with most standard size pens - even ones with slightly shaped grips. It does not work properly with slim-diameter pens.

LizThat's definitely good to know. I haven't used any of the other pens from Lamy, the Safari is a plastic version of the Al Star. I'm going to assume the diameters are mostly the same there.
Thanks for the info.

jwzhanThat why I'll wait on buying it. I don't need it, it's nice but I don't use a fountain pen enough to even run out of the internal inkwell in a month's time. Doesn't mean I might not get it in the future but always good to know my options.

LizI travel quite a bit, so I rely on my Traveling Inkwell constantly, and it has never failed me no matter what pen I use. According to Larry (owner of Dromgoole's, the amazing pen store here in Houston) the only modern fountain pens that really don't work in the device are the Pilot Vanishing Points, as the nibs are just too small / off-centered to seal inside the taper.
