This device sounds good for the money... I changed the tube to a Mullard (Great Britain) and tested it with my Elear, Teak, Sine, 400i, PM3, K7xx, HD 6xx, HD 598 C, and now use it at work with the HD 598 SE as a cheap upgrade for Apple Music... but the default high gain setting is too much for this headphone using a Macbook Pro. Has anyone here successfully changed the gain setting to low? I opened the device but the gain switches J7 and J8 are not there (the TA-01 internal pictures I found on the Internet do not match this version I just received). Any help is greatly appreciated!

LordBorgThats crazy, it looks like they're simply gone! When I can ill upload some internal pics of mine, from your same angle. We can see if theres any other difference. Hopefully your configuration would be in high gain. Too bad, it was a nice feature. Someone on head-fi said they contacted xduoo and asked about sound quality, xduoo responded that higher gain gives better quality. Maybe that was the reason for the change?

BozoskeletonzSo I'm not losing my mind after all! Thank you for checking. Yes, they're just gone. I had seen that comment on head-fi and tried contacting Xduoo directly as well as their representative in the U.S.... no response. If they did away with this feature, I feel that this should be part of the description here on Massdrop, as this product appears to no longer have high or low gain options... it's probably just in high gain mode.

LordBorgLooks like they have made changes to the design. The power supply for the power LED is also changed, looks more sophisticated. Previous design use a single resistor to limited the current/voltage for power LED, and the LED died on my after several months of use. I am curious however, whether there is LED under the tube? Previous design reserved the connections for LED under the tube, but not connected. Did they add LED to light up the tube? For high/low gain setting, I believe it's default to high gain now. The previous version wass default to high gain, and xduoo people claimed high gain sounds better. It's reasonable to assume they set it to high gain and removed the jumpers altogether.

LordBorgAnother question, it looks like the power LED have three pins, it mean it might be a dual/multi-color LED. It was blue in previous version. Does the power LED change color? What's the color? Maybe it can serve as an fault indicator?

plainbrinyYes, it looks like they changed the design. As for the LED, apparently it used to be blue. This new version starts out red, then cycles through yellow to green. But there is no LED lighting up the tube. I still wished we had the option for low gain, though. I gave up on the HD 598 and am using the K7xx instead... that's a good pairing.
