I really don't think you can go wrong with whatever Liong Mah model speaks to you design wise. I've had customs and mid-tech knives before brands like Reate were really established and you'd be paying $500 minimum for a basic titanium framelock model associated with any custom maker. Reate's quality control and fit and finish put most of them to shame too, and Liong's designs themselves are among my favorites, along with Tashi Bharucha.

RBnumber3I've only really been collecting for a few years or so, and started out buying spyderco and benchmade almost exclusively. When I ordered my first WE made knife, the Crux from here, I was blown away by the almost perfect fit and finish on a 120 dollar knife made I'm China. That was just the start of me delving into higher end Chinese brands. I now probably own 30 We, Kizer, Artisan and Bestech framelocks. Recently I decided to delve into the pricier Reate world by picking up a Pena X Lannys clip (MCF version) and it's absolutely perfect. Like my We Deacon and Bishop, I absolutely love the titanium "bolster-lock" with some type of overlay (either the fancy CFs or the just about any type of micarta). One of the Kirby Lambert Raine, the Tachi Bharachu Heatseeker, or the Ochs Worx Lynx will be the next knife I get from this site, but it may be awhile. At one point the Heat seeker dropped to around 200 and if it does so again, I'm in without hesitation. But the liong mah models I like are basically the grail knives for me. While the Lanny with black micarta would probably be my first choice its very similar to the Pena X, so it may come down to the Warrior 2 V2, or the Zulu. I have to say though that I'm very intrigued by the new Liong Mah Button lock auto and the GSD with the tuxedo g10 and black titanium. I guess its alot to decide, but I think I'm ready to take the step up to some of the pricier knives ($400 plus). The cheaper Medfords and Hinderers will probably also be considered, but I honestly think I'll get more for my money with a Reate.
