Finally received my Ingersol New Haven this AM. First impressions: Okay considering the $99 price, but I can't say I'm in love with it. Unlike most, I ordered mine with the crock embossed (genuine) leather strap with butterfly deployant clasp (my first). Trying to figure that bit out took at least twenty minutes. If that strap and buckle were a combination IQ and Dexterity test, my grade would be a solid D-minus. Once I got the strap figured out, I moved on to setting the time. Not sure I was aware of it when I placed my order, or whether I just decided to overlook it because of the price, but I was still disappointed when confronted with the awful truth--this thing don't hack. I also felt some weird tactile feedback when clicking the day and date wheels into position--everything fell into place okay, but feeling was slightly rough. The dial itself is kind of a mixed bag. In the product shots, the indices are dead on silver, but on the wrist they reflect ambient light; indoor lighting shifts the color to a less attractive mix of gold tones. Once outdoors, they quickly turn silver again. More annoying, considering there's only one Arabic numeral on the dial, I'm disappointed Ingersol managed to screw it up--the stroke width for the "2" is at least 1.5x as thick as the "1" that precedes it. Once noticed, it's a little hard to overlook. The domed crystal is okay but I might have been happier with a flat crystal because the curvature makes the watch look a little too "clunky" for it's own good. A flat crystal would give it a more contemporary feel which would be more inline with that awkward Helvetica-looking "12" up top, and because, let's face it--this really isn't a substitute for a Seiko Presage or an Orient Bambino. Things get a little more interesting once you flip the watch over and contemplate the nicely decorated movement; at first glance it certainly looks like a nice movement. And that brings me to biggest complaint--why Ingersol opted to decorate the movement, and why they opted to package the watch in the nicely-made (over-kill) dovetailed wooden box, and why they felt it necessary to include a perfectly useless, 2mm thick, steel "Authenticity Card"--is beyond me. All of that crap costs money in materials, sourcing, and shipping that could have been spent on a better movement--one that hacks for instance. All of which leads to the other awful truth about this watch: it was designed to appeal to people who don't know watches, and who would be more likely to purchase one based on it's packaging, rather than what's in it. In other words, a genre of marketing that places more value on the Sizzle, than the Steak. So, did I fall for it? To some degree yes. My purchase decision was primarily influenced by the sub one-hundred dollar price, so I was certainly aware of what I was buying. I'm just a little disappointed it didn't turn out to be everything it could have been!

UPDATE: No longer for sale—I gave it away. This watch is FOR SALE, in unworn, as received condition, box and papers included. First seventy-five bucks takes it--you pay postage. Nothing wrong with the watch or the brand, just a little more dressy than a guy like me can wear ;- )

OMG, you're right, that "authenticity card" is steel! I hadn't even looked at it. Then I spent 2 minutes trying to figure out if it was actually something useful: a file, a knife, maybe a knife sharpener. But no, it's just a steel warranty card. And there's a 100 page instruction book. You're also right about the movement. For another 10 bucks they could have used a 9000 series Miyota. They do hack.

thanks for the review. I was looking at the Ingersoll drop had last week but the size of it (45) was a total deal breaker.
