CJRB is the best budget brand out there.

TylerDurden333I think that's possibly overstating it, but 'budget' and 'budget brand' mean a range of different things to different listeners, as does at least some of what makes them 'best'', and I do think they're pretty good. CJRB appears to have a mature manufacturing process with high quality standards, based on the ones I've taken apart and looked at under the scope, and their prices are usually under $50. This puts them well into the group of companies that would seriously contend for 'best budget brand' so, no worries, I can get that far with you on this one. Best? No. I'd say there's brands with a similar build quality but better pricing (Ganzo, Harnds, possibly CH), and brands that might be better on both (the SanRenMu family of brands, Civivi). Real Steels are also slightly better build quality but for the most part are costing more than CJRBs, and the same may be true of QSP. Then there’s Two Sun... so no, not best. I do like the maturation of CJRB's designs. Every once in a while I still see a design that reminds me these are the same people that did Artisan, which is to say that there's something about it that seems badly proportioned to me - never did warm to Artisan. But the Gobi and the Barranca and Agave all have more pleasing dimension ratios as far as I'm concerned, and fewer pointlessly wild lines.

I would've considered buying one if that was what they looked like Well done, sir 👍 Interested in sharing your methods? It looks very natural compared to many things I've seen like this

That's badass. Uses will eventually present themselves for such. Oddly I've been thinking about using some bluing agents on knife hardware and whatnot. Haven't blued anything since I helped my dad blue an old 1897 Winchester as a kid.

reswrightI thought so too 😁 and got it for a steal, in the condition it was in. Might be a dedicated metal drill, my electric drill only goes so slow. I haven't done much myself, but this Formula 44/40 stuff is pretty nice. Works instantly, works cold, layers well for choosing how dark you want to go. A little more expensive than some of the others, but might be worth checking out. I haven't tested it on any stainless hardware though. Last time I wanted to blacken hardware i did the torch and oil quench method.

erickongI was going for post apocalyptic but there's a lot of common ground there when you think about it.
