reswrighthahaha, what the heck is that spyderhole? its like a cold steel golden eye. also, i bought that maserin. i'm a sucker for bolsters, probably gonna try to replace the yellow g-10 with copper (or if i'm feeling really adventureous, mokume) also, here's spydercos take on it. i actually kind of like it. https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SP152GSMP/spyderco-chaparral-sun-moon-folding-knife-cts-xhp-satin-plain-blade-black-and-white-g10-handles-with-mother-of-pearl-and-red-g10-inlays

method_burgerthe things in the Spyderholes are Wise Men Company kit called Fangs. I've got a Spyderco Schemp Bowie, brass bolster, CF handle scales, that I'm debating seeing if I can have someone put a ring and wave on, because I have a sneaking suspicion it'd make a really cool hybrid karambit.

method_burgerFrom what I've read about those Maserins, you're probably going to be improving the fit and finish just by laying hands on them, let alone retrofitting them with new material. I think a tooled up copper bolster is a fine thing and so is mokume. Really dig some of the stuff Eric Ochs has done with those: http://ochsworx.com/current-models/persian_234

reswrightim counting on the shelter in place to last a bit longer so i can squeeze in a few more projects lol. i have some left over brass and copper and i want to try forge welding for the first time. also gonna try to line it up with the wood (i got the olive, so all it has to do is be relatively straight) my personal inspiration for bolsters come from stan wilson and frank fischer. really like it when the bolster and blade patterns nearly match. https://www.arizonacustomknives.com/knives-by-maker/wilson-stan/135640.html also, i missed out on the schemp bowie. i'm still not fond of carrying folders over 3 inches, which is why at the time i opted for a zt450 (big mistake, bad heat treat), but at a glance, i either wanted the benchmade loco or the schemp bowie. they handle very similarly because of their canted blade-handle design. it had a very purposeful feel to it, a lot like handling the ferrum forge falcon. *sigh, all knives i like go out of production.

method_burgeryes, for the life of me I don't know why more knifemakers don't go for those continuities in patterns between the open knife blade and the handle. I like to see it both at the macro scale with large design features, like blade apertures echoing features on the handle, and at the micro scale like that stan wilson piece with the seamless patterns. I sort of expect it at the macroscale -- whenever I see an open knife where the lines don't flow well from handle to blade, I think the designer was lazy. Matching waving mokume and damascus? That's impressive, I understand that the knifemaker moved heaven and earth to get that just so, so for me seeing it is less of an 'of course that's how it's supposed to be' and more of a 'coooooool'
