Is anyone's DROP High-Profile CTRL keyboard randomly disconnecting?

more_vert
With LEDs on, this keyboard will randomly disconnect in the middle of typing or during a game. I've tried:
  • Using the cable they gave me(always have been)
  • Plugging it into different USB ports on my computer
  • Turning off the LEDs (that's how I diagnosed it, per support as well)
  • Even returned it in exchange for another, and it's still happening.
The top three bullets are what support told me to test, and I did just that. It's no issue if the LEDs are off, but I want them on. Can anyone else with the new CTRL High-profile keyboards fill in on whether or not they are experiencing this? It's happening much more frequently. I'm not sure if it's because of my motherboard being slightly older and not supply enough power, or a keyboard issue.

Ok, so third post about this. Able to reproduce the problem. EVERY time I turn on the under desk fan, keyboard goes nuts disconnecting and reconnecting so I'm guessing that (at least in my case) its a power draw issue. Turn the fan off and keyboard returns to normal and behaves itself.

Disregard my last post, after 2 hours keyboard starting random disconnecting endlessly making it unusable. Well p*ssed off, wont be touching any of these keyboards with a bargepole from now on, cost a fortune and now only fit for the bin.

If anyone is still having this issue I found stripping the keyboard down and cleaning sorted this for me. I do however suspect it may have been an issue with the case being a bit loose (tightened the screws a bit more when back together). To test, plug in and hold the keyboard on its end (so the cable is upright out the top and spacebar is adjacent to the desk). If the disconnecting only occurs once you place the keyboard on the desk, its probably the case thats a bit loose.

I can confirm this issue I have 2 CTRLs and both do it. I am on a walking desk treadmill and everytime I touch the metal case and RGB plastic it disconnects and reconnects. I can pretty much do it on command. Any ideas?

I recently purchased a Drop CTRL and found it was dropping out 10-15 times per day but only on my PC (not when I used in on my PS5) which was super annoying! Just in case anyone else is still coming across this issue, I did manage to get to the bottom of it. It seems the Drop CTRL doesn't play nicely with USB sleep, which explains why people have had success by using it via a powered USB hub. I was able to permanently resolve this issue on linux by disabling USB autosleep (set kernel parameter usbcore.autosuspend=-1). I assume there's a similar setting to disable USB sleep on Windows.

FluteYoshiThere is a similar setting in the power options on windows but it made no difference for me.

This happens only when I am working around a surface that causes static buildup. Once I build up charge, the next time I touch the frame of the keyboard I discharge and cause the keyboard to drop out. This is easily repeatable and doesn't matter much what revision of PCBA or keyboard design you're using. I think the only option is to use an anti-static pad to sit on. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I have to imagine that other models/brands of keyboards can occasionally have this issue as well. Especially if they are metal-framed.

This happens to me all the time at the worst time possible! I use my computer for chats and it is frustrating to have it suddenly disconnect. As this thread dates back more than two years, I would think that Drop would have produced a patch by now. As is, I have to unplug my keyboard and plug it back in again. Verified I get this on multiple computers, including Windows 7, Windows 10, and Windows 11.

I just got my replacement CTRL barebones assembled and within 5 minutes it did its disconnect/flash thing again. I hear the chime my computer makes when it detects a new device, and my keyboard flashes. My monitor, LED mouse, and USB accessories, don't show any signs of a problem. I've tried using different USB ports, I've tried switching the side of the CTRL I plug the cord into, I've switched to the original cord from the upgraded one they sell with the keyboard, Finding a needle to poke the reset button at the back. Gone through all the USB port - Cord - Keyboard combos again, I've also checked for updates. The only thing that I have found works, is to leave it unplugged for long rest. When it stops working for me, I set it aside, plug in my basic cheapo keyboard that I got with the computer, and wait for the next day. It usually works as normal until it starts disconnecting again. Most the time when I keep typing it will start working again. Occasionally it wont work again no matter what I do. The worst experience of this was while playing a game. My character was stuck walking forward while my keyboard decided it was done for the night. In a game where stealth and precision are the key to surviving. Powerwalking to the exit across the map ruined my experience and immersion. Looking for a solution because I do love this keyboard! Please help

Mine seems to do it when it gets touched or bumped after a long period of inactivity, could it be a grounding issue?

petrocityI have noticed sometimes after it sits for a long time if I inadvertently touch it, the disconnect happens. But it is nearly impossible to reproduce.

eafpresMy replacement keyboard no longer spontaneously disconnects, and is generally more stable. A direct zap will require rebooting. During normal use this never happens.

I just posted about this in the discussion thread because I didn't see this one until searching on google. My high profile version that was delivered July 2020 disconnects. I have tried it with the lights off, with a powered USB hub and on a different computer. Same issue. It happens randomly but seems to happen in the morning more than any other time and recently within the last couple of weeks it happens a lot more. 4 - 6 times in the morning. Any solution? Edit: I took apart the keyboard and made sure everything was clean and connected well. No issues I found but cleaned things up anyway. Well once I put it back together is has been working properly for months now. YMMV
