"Mid tier" IEM recommendations?

more_vert
I'm thinking of making a modest investment in a solid pair of IEMs. I have long been hoping there'd be another drop of the IMR R2 Red, but that seems highly unlikely. So, now my attention is on the JVC HA-FDX1 DUAL CARBON. What else in the $150 to $250 range is worth my attention? Not sure what to share so y'all can provide targeted recommendations. I have the HD6XX and KZ ZS10 Pro. I use the Radsone Earstudio with the KZ, and probably would with whatever I get next. I'm very happy with the sound of the HD6XX but would welcome a little more on the bottom (I don't consider myself a bass head). Sources tend to be high resolution. Classic rock and progressive predominates, with a lot of live recordings. Fiio FA7 or FH5? IKKO OH10? Aiderlot M5? Simgot EN700 Pro? IMR Knight (about $260 from their site)? I see a lot of ChiFi options on Amazon, which I don't dismiss out of hand, but there are a lot to sort through. Besides a great sounding product, of course, I like "bang for the buck." If I can spend $150 on something that gets me 90% of the way to the quality of the JVC or IMR, I'd give it strong consideration. Thanks in advance!

It's a shame that you didn't ask this question last month! There were a lot of great candidates offered on here in your price range. I should be receiving a couple of them within the next week or two. Those would be the Final Audio A4000 & the Mangird Tea. I've owned the Simgot EN700 Pro for about 3 years & I think that they're underrated but I also think that they can be eclipsed by more current designs depending on your sonic preferences & source equipment. I don't own them but I suspect that the JVC HA-FDX1 would offer better overall performance. I don't currently own any Fiio iem's but I am considering them. You can save a few bucks by picking them up up through Fiio's EBay store (born4music). If an Earstudio will be in use & the primary function is portable, I'd probably point you towards the Final Audio A4000 based on your musical preferences.

Oh, should ask: how often does CTM do sales?

WordsandMusicThey usually have something going on a few times a year. It wouldn't surprise me if they do something around the end of the month for Memorial Day. Maybe 4th of July.....
