Just because a game has "superior" versions or models does not mean it's useless.
The 1080 can run games at 4k. If you somehow think that the 1080ti is going to make the 1080 "rubbish" you have not thought about anything at all.
Best after market card is the Zotac 1080 amp extreme BUT that puppy is huge. Better check if your case can support it.
