Depend on what game and how many Frames Per Second you want. If you are a casual, go i5. If you want to go competitive and have stable +144fps I heavily advice you to buy i7. Currently running a high end graphics card and playing Overwatch, my poor i5 struggle and streaming is not be considered.
Gotta say I just built a computer for a friend with i7-6700k and that CPU kicks major butt. The i5's are nice but they can't hyperthread like the i7's do and you can see a major jump in performance with the i7's. At least I did in my experience. The i7's are a little more future proof is all, but I run an older i5-3570k and I love it. It's all about what you can afford really. With a good graphics card you'll still be able to play games with both.
I keep reading this over and over and everywhere, this is misinformation at best. YES, for a casual player with 60hz monitor it is enough, but if you want to try to play a game competitively and/or stream your gaming, it is adviced to buy an i7.
Thanks for clearing that up, it does make sense. To stream anything (or record games) takes a much beefier system. I hope to give it a shot in the near future. In line with your advice I just bumped up to an i7-6800k for just that reason.
In my opinion, the i5 6600k would be the best choice because of it's performance vs price. The i5 6700k is not much better, but costs much more. A drop on the 6600k would result in a more readily available performance CPU which would benefit the manufacturers and the buyers.
$320~$340 is the price you'll find on 80% of the professional PC retailers' stores nowadays because that's what it's worth currently, especially with the release of the new ix 7xxx series
If massdropp can get it for under $280 I can guarantee they'd get at least 1000 of them sold in no time lol, me and 5 other friends are waiting for a good drop in price on this beast
