These are fantastic. I used to own an Arctic Blue (I think 2W) and I was kind of scared of how powerful it was. I was afraid I'd mess up my eyesight by accident. They came with protective shades that you're encouraged to wear, but still.
these seem awesome
Let's make it happen!
What are the chances this will end up on Massdrop? and generally how long will we have to wait?
how much brighter will the arctic blue 3.5W vs the 2W and 1W?
I've owned an Arctic Blue for several years. It has an effective range of about 300 miles. 300. Miles.
I have the same model that they flashed the International Space Station with in 2012. Here's an article by the astronaut himself: http://www.airspacemag.com/daily-planet/a-flashing-success-114137238/?no-ist
It's built like a weapon, pops balloons and burns most anything. It's great for camping — you can light fires with it, blind attacking bears, and if you need rescue it's about a hundred times better than a flare gun. It uses a single 18650 battery that I only have to recharge about once a year, and there are lens attachments that let you create mind-blowing special effects that never fail to impress. All that being said, if I were able to import another one to the US (which you can't actually do any more), I'd go for the Krypton. It isn't as powerful but the green beam is about ten times as bright to the human eye.
