I think i would go with either but i am waiting for the X2's because they are well, better. I can't understand why people are not ok with just paying a little more for an even better pair.
At what point does this become a massdrop, and how much did the X1 sell for in the last massdrop? Right now its being sold at Amazon.com for $250 (-17%), and Amazon.ca for $450.
The Fidelio X2 has removable ear-pads which the Fidelio X1 does not. Knowing that both of these headphones will cost roughly the same price, the X2 would be the better choice. It deserves a massdrop. $250 is my price point.
X1 also has removable pads and can even use X2 pads. Only thing is that first removal should be done with care since they have some hot-glue between cups and pads.
For smaller than average head X1 would be also better fit probably. Some ppl say they can`t use X2 due to too large headband.
X1 need only better OFC cable (not all cables match imho) which tightens up bass a bit and proper matching amping (no need though) for tightening bass even further.
I have found my desktop rig end-game with Aune T1 (Siemens E88CC + ELNA SilmicII capacitors) + Fidelio X1. This sound just amazingly great!
And I would buy another set of X1 if this drop would happen (gift for family member)!
IMHO people who dismiss the X1s because they don't have removable pads are idiotic. How many times have you had to replace the pads on headphones??? If you have had them THAT long and use them THAT much then I think you got your money's worth. Go out and buy something different. There are only 100+ "can't lose" cans out there.
The X2's have a better cable. fair enough. BUT for those of us who did 2 minutes of resaerch before buying the X1s bought a better cable for the X1. That "better cable" is still better than the X2s only slightly lower impedance cable.
X2 have a smoother reference curve... at the cost of bass. Is it worth 50$ more?
I honestly think I might buy the X1s all over again given the choice. I could be 100% wrong if I actually heard them side by side.
The X2s are here and about $50 more, how come more people aren't voting for those?
I'm new to Massdrop, though, do older products drop at a much lower price than new ones, if we exclude the price difference?
